US Secret Service chief resigns following Trump assassination attempt

Washington: US Secret Service Director Kimberly Chettle has resigned after the agency came under intense scrutiny for failing to stop an assassin from wounding former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally, the White House said on Tuesday. The agency did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Secret Service, responsible for protecting current and former US presidents, faced a crisis on July 13 after a gunman was able to shoot Trump from a rooftop overlooking an outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
