It's that time of year again. We have the Game Awards on the horizon, and while everyone is trying to guess what big exciting announcements there will be, despite the show's continued efforts it actually takes care of its own awards. This year, things have ramped up a bit thanks to the near-constant Half-Life 3 rumors and a giant statue in the desert, and it feels like almost anything could pop up this year as an unexpected surprise.
However, there is one franchise that most people haven't thought of as a possible candidate – Star Wars. We know that there are a bunch of Star Wars games in development right now, all at very different stages of development, and a fairly reliable insider is now hinting that a “big” Star Wars game announcement is coming soon.
Star Wars is announcing a big game soon
This little tease comes from notable Twitter insider Kurakasis, who goes on to claim that the Star Wars announcement they're teasing has nothing to do with Star Wars: Zero Company, or Star Wars Eclipse. Those are two relatively small Star Wars games when it comes to the big picture, so the real question is what can be announced.
With two games already ruled out, that leaves us with some potential suspects. The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake has been MIA for quite some time, since it was first announced in 2021, and there have been various reports of troubled development. It's obviously still in development though, and it'll be a pretty big announcement for the Game Awards.
Bungie on why Destiny 2's Star Wars expansion is more than fan service
“Our number one goal was to make sure the experience didn't just feel like a bottle episode or a weird one-off.”
Second, we know Star Wars: Zero Company isn't the only Star Wars game Respawn is currently working on. Earlier this year, Respawn said it was working on “the next chapter of the Star Wars Jedi series,” and with only two years to live, we can get an official teaser trailer as a clear confirmation that the game is coming.
Finally, we have Skydance's big Star Wars title currently in development, led by Uncharted director and writer Amy Hennig. That's probably the title we know the least about right now, though with Skydance currently hard at work on Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, it's unlikely they'll be showing off another big project anytime soon.
Whatever the big Star Wars announcement is going to be, it's most likely to happen at The Game Awards next week, with the show just over a week away. Who knows, maybe the giant statue in the desert that everyone has been raving about is related to Star Wars – that's as good a guess as anyone right now.
