A Silent Hill fan is turning the PS1 classic into a VR game

On their own, horror games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Dead Space are terrifying, with moments that will make you want to slam your controller into the wall as you scream. Then came Virtual Reality (VR) and those horror games, which were already hard to stomach, became even scarier.

Not every horror title known to man has made the jump to VR, but one fan is helping to ensure that one of the most iconic titles, the original Silent Hill on PlayStation 1, gets its due.

The result? Silent Hill (1999) VR Edition, an upcoming release from VRified Games, a self-proclaimed “VR enthusiast who loves running flat-screen games in VR.”

In a nearly two-minute long video shared on YouTube, they emphasized that their project is not a “fan remake” or a “port”, but rather an adaptation of the original title, playable entirely in first-person stereoscopic 3D with head-tracking and modern controls.

There is no release date for the project other than “soon-ish” and fans are encouraged to subscribe to their YouTube channel for the latest updates, including a look at how things will work in real life.

While Resident Evil has received the modern VR treatment, Silent Hill and its renaissance have not. This seems to have prompted the creator to take matters into his own hands.

“Like, literally waiting years until I went full Thanos and said, 'Okay, I'll do it myself,'” they wrote in response to someone.

Do we need this very silent mountain?

Very good thing?

Either way, it looks awesome and VR fans will have another title to add to the list. Go figure, it's not just a silent heel-related thing at work, official or unofficial.

Silent Hill fans are eating well, and it doesn't look like things are stopping anytime soon.

To recap, Silent Hill 2 Remake was released in 2024, and after some initial horror, the blubber team absolutely knocked it out of the park, helping to bring the horror classic to the fore on modern hardware.

A year later, the first new Silent Hill project in years, Silent Hill F, was released to critical acclaim, marking back-to-back years with Silent Hill games. Meanwhile, the Blubber team was chosen to remake the original Silent Hill title, adding a third game to the books.

Recently, the creator of Silent Hill, Motoi Okamato, shared the hope that the team could release a new Silent Hill game every year to get the franchise back on track. It's a bold statement, but with two hits under their belt, who can stop them?

If all that wasn't enough, there's also a live-action Return to Silent Hill movie slated for release later this month. It doesn't sound particularly incredible, but we're willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. Adding a VR title is another cherry on top of a fully-fledged revival.
