We're just a few weeks away from the release of Magic: The Gathering's upcoming set, Lorwyn Eclipsed. The aircraft was originally introduced in 2007 in a dedicated block of two sets “Lorwin”, followed by a related block of two sets “Shadowmoor” in 2008.
However, if you can't wait two weeks to visit Lorwyn's spectacular, wild plane, then Anopelao96 has you covered. The user in question is a Skyrim modder who is recreating Lorwyn in Bethesda's RPG Piece by Piece. So far, Anopelao has released six different mods based on the Magic: The Gathering setting.
Go to Lorwyn
The first, and my personal favorite, is 'Lerwin's Forest: High Fantasy Tree Overhaul'. As the name suggests, the mod matches the non-snowy parts of Skyrim to the land of the original Lorwyn block. This means winding, gnarled trees and a fey-like beauty in the forests of Skyrim.
As the author explains, Falkreath and Riften are based in the forests of Lorwyn, while Mortal is based in the swamps of Lorwyn. The various tundra regions of Skyrim are based on the Plains of Lorwyn. It's a neat recreation, and Anopelao has done a fantastic job capturing Lorwyn's magical spirit.
Some of Lorwyn's many creatures have also been transformed, such as flamekin elementals. These elements are kept together with the Forsworn, and also in the three original villages scattered around Skyrim.
Likewise, Anopelao has added terrifying-looking Kithkins and placed them in aesthetically-appropriate locations around Skyrim, including three bespoke villages.
MTG Head Designer Says In-Multiverse Is Focusing More Than Following Multiple Universes Outside of Backlash
MTG head designer Mark Rosewater says that in-multiverse magic is “getting more attention from us than ever” following fresh feedback on Universe Beyond.
In the mod for Merrows, the author has included a unique spawn for Sygg, a legendary creature introduced in Shadowmoor. Regular forms of these creatures are placed along the bodies of water in Skyrim.
Unfortunately, there is also a mod for Lorwyn's Changelings. These are blue-skinned creatures that masquerade as other creatures in the game, which does nothing to ease my phobia of many of Skyrim's creatures. I mean, look at that turtle transformation. I can't fight that.
I sincerely hope that the author and others continue to optimize Lorwin so that we can eventually have something similar to the overhaul mode. After all, Hasbro doesn't seem willing to adapt the setting to an RPG, despite constant requests from the community.
