It's time for Sega to bring back the classic 90s fighting game

The fighting genre is made up of dozens of unique IPs, although the average person probably only knows a handful of franchises, e.g. Tekken, Street Fighteror Mortal Kombat. But then you have other series that are outside the mainstream, e.g Guilty gear or deadly furyWhich are well worth a look, even if they aren't as highly-produced as the aforementioned genre leaders.

Eternal Champions One such is IP, though unlike something like deadly furyRights holder Sega has not treated gaming audiences in any form of retaliation: Eternal Champions The Sega Genesis started in 1993, and stayed there for over three decades. It's also a real shame, like Eternal Champions Could easily go toe to toe with the hottest modern fighting games. With any luck, maybe it will one day.

The Eternal Champions cast is one of the best in the genre

Eternal Champions There is a roster of nine fighters. Each one is from a different time period, and some died in an unjust or undeserved way. In the far, far future, a man called the Eternal Champion has decided that these deaths are responsible for the downfall of the universe, as each of these nine fighters was destined for some form of greatness. As such, the Eternal Champion forms a tournament with these nine souls, who must fight out of time for the opportunity to be sent back seconds before their death. They must fight for a second chance at life.

The sky's the limit for Modern Eternal Champions Resurgence

I imagine it's pretty scary to introduce a “new” fighting game IP in 2026, even if you're a company the size of Sega: The Favorites Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter Some stiff competition, that's for sure. But I maintain it Eternal Champions Today the genre will have a fighting chance (no pun intended) of its place, not just because of the strength of its original cast, but because of its fundamentals.

Basically, the idea of a super-powered person manipulating space and time to create a tournament where ghosts from throughout history compete, while silly (and very '90s), offers a lot of creative freedom. You can essentially draw from any historical period, including prehistory, for your characters, and if the story is handled with proper care it will inevitably lead to compelling, unexpected dynamics. Character diversity is essential in fighting games, in my opinion, and Eternal Champions It is in stock. It's time for Sega to realize the gem it has on its hands.
