If you've missed the online chatter, Crimson Desert is a great video game. This was immediately apparent to me during a six-hour preview I did earlier this month, when I saw 3,000 pieces of knowledge to discover in the game, but still didn't understand the size and scale of what players are now discovering.
This is the type of game that will take hundreds of hours to complete, and years for players to collectively explore every aspect of Pywel's map. It goes without saying, then, that earning its PlayStation Platinum trophy is an absolute grind. That hasn't stopped some players, though, as the first platinums are starting to roll in.
The first players are starting to get Crimson Desert's Monstrous Platinum
According to PowerPyx, a reliable, long-running PlayStation trophy site, Crimson Desert's Platinum will take 300+ hours to complete due to its “long story, very time-consuming challenges, huge map, lots of side content”. While many of these trophies aren't particularly difficult, they take a long time to complete, exploring the entire map, finding every weapon of every type, and winning every minigame.
Perhaps this estimate is a little high, players need to dedicate 25 hours a day, each day of the 12 days after release, to earn Platinum; That hasn't stopped some, though, who have apparently streamlined the process to focus solely on trophies.
While many tracking websites are still showing Platinum as having a 0.00 percent completion rate, the game's PlayStation page is now showing that 0.01 percent of players have the plate.
Such is the time-consuming nature of these trophies, only three out of 34 (3/35 if you include platinum) have a completion rate above 0.1 percent. It's almost a given that many of these players have gone on to achieve platinum.
It's no surprise to see that the game has already built a rabid fanbase. Despite moderate critical reviews and early mixed Steam reviews, a range of updates that addressed Crimson Desert's biggest issues have turned the game's fortunes around. It now sits very positive on Steam, and sentiment on forums like Reddit seems increasingly healthy.
