SteamThe free-to-keep promotion is one of the best sources for free PC games on the Internet, especially since they are permanent additions to one's digital library, but this August can be a slow month. What makes it different, even compared to Steam's own free weekend promotions, is that every game can be downloaded forever (at least through Steam) as long as it's claimed before a certain date. For August, as of this writing, there is currently only 1 game confirmed.
What is worth noting is that this confirmation comes from backend information via Steamdb, which is not “official”, but it is very accurate. Every Steam free-to-keep game doesn't appear through this backend data until it's added, but every game that appears in its upcoming list is usually added eventually. As such, it is entirely possible and likely that more than one Steam FTK game promotion goes live in August, but with 3-7 listed at this point in previous months, this could indicate a slow month.

Steamdb listings the moon As a free-to-keep game for August 2026, though when remains a question. Steamdb doesn't usually verify this information, but developers sometimes do. For the uninitiated, the moon is a roguelike RPG from developer Digital Sun and publisher 11 Bit Studios. In it, players take on the role of Will – a businessman who wants to be a hero. One part of the gameplay loop is merchant gameplay centered around Rynoka Village, where players can enjoy story management gameplay, but the second part sees players go out, explore, and encounter enemies and bosses to sell into the story. And through each roguelike run the moonPlayers can craft and enchant their equipment to get further and further.

As of this writing, the moon After 7K user reviews it sits at an 80% very positive review rating, which is impressive. Many reviewers love the characters, story, gameplay loop, and charm, but many reviews mention that its PC controls are incredibly weak. For many people, it loses in that department and struggles with depth in others, according to some: combat, dungeons/enemies, and UI. That said, it was popular enough to warrant a release Moonlighter 2 In Steam Early Access.
If one enjoys the first the moon As a free Steam game, then it might be worth moving on Moonlighter 2 after. It's still in early access, but it's shaping up to be released sometime this year. This is the formula of 3D Tech, the developers aim to improve every important area mentioned by fans. Most of the work seems to be done. On Steam, it sits at an overall 86% very positive review rating, but it's worth noting that its recent reviews are more mixed (currently 69% positive). Most of the criticism is aimed at owners and balance, so it will likely be fixed in the coming months.
Overall, hopefully more games are confirmed for Steam's free-to-keep promotion in the coming days or weeks. the moon There won't be the only one, almost certainly, but it stands alone now.
