The PS5 PlayStation Store is getting some big changes

Sony is testing a new PlayStation Store layout PS5 It uses significantly larger image thumbnails, in addition to adopting a few other innovations. Assuming these changes will eventually roll out to all PS5 users, which has yet to be officially confirmed, the overall redesign marks the biggest PS Store rework in half a decade.

In November 2026, Sony will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the launch of the PlayStation Store. Aside from minor revisions, Sony's digital marketplace has seen three major redesigns over the years, with large-scale UI overhauls often arriving near the launch of a new PlayStation console generation. The most significant of those changes came in 2008, 2012, and 2020.

PlayStation Store redesign spotted on PS5

Sony may now be gearing up for another major redesign, with a new PlayStation Store interface reportedly being tested with some PlayStation beta users. The first glimpse of the updated UI appeared on April 11, when X user Gaming_bo3gg posted a screenshot of the storefront's Browse tab. Unlike the current layout, which leaves users with a dense “all games” grid designed for quick scanning, the latest beta version gives a small number of titles more prominence through large horizontal feature cards. In doing so, it seems to emphasize efficient use of volume and screen space for a more curated feel similar to a modern Netflix interface.

While the beta menu's top carousel contains fewer games than the current PS Store interface, it also provides more information about the highlighted titles, including descriptive tags that identify genres and other features. Note of Note, for example, is labeled with terms ranging from “RPG” and “turn-based combat” to “stylized,” “story-rich,” “colorful,” and “3D.” Starfield, meanwhile, has been tagged as “open-world,” “RPG,” “story-rich,” “cinematic,” and “space exploration.” On top of that, carousel cards with one-liner blurbs essentially serve as the logline of a given game.

The latest PS Store beta build also adds mood- and genre-based browsing sections beneath the new descriptive carousel. That's another Netflix-esque touch, following the streaming giant's rollout of mood-based catalog browsing to select beta users in the spring of 2025. The overall PS Store tab structure appears unchanged, with sections for the latest releases, collections, deals, and PlayStation Plus-related news. The beta interface is reportedly limited to the PS5 version of the digital marketplace. Sony has not acknowledged this publicly, suggesting that a wider rollout has not yet been approved. There's no indication now when that might happen.

The latest PS Store beta layout includes auto-playing videos

Another reported change in the new layout concerns selection behavior, with trailer footage automatically starting to play when highlighted with any game tile in the carousel. As of today the small number of user reports describing the feature do not specify whether videos are muted, although that would be the expected default in line with modern UX standards. As of April 12, an experimental PS Store layout has gone live for some beta users in Europe and North America, with no sightings reported elsewhere. Separately, Sony is also testing a new PS5 home screen layout that appears to be available to the same users after seeing the latest PS Store redesign.
