A Bloodborne animated movie has been announced by Sony at CinemaCon 2026. This adaptation will bring the recently announced Helldivers movie to the big screen as the next PlayStation IP. It will be co-produced by PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation, and Sean McLoughlin, also known as JackSepticEye.
While no other details about the movie have been revealed, the president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group said it would be “very true” to the game's gruesome and violent depiction; That means it will likely be R-rated. We have no word on a potential release window or when production will begin.
We are now getting three from software customization
This marks the third adaptation of the FromSoftware game. Sekiro: Hadows Die Twice is getting a stylish anime, while Elden Ring is getting a live-action movie. A recent leak from the Alden Ring set revealed that it will be set after Shatter, which means we'll see Land's Beach as it happens in the game.
Bloodborne's Victorian-era setting and Lovecraftian horror vibe would suit an animated adaptation better than live-action. Considering the moon itself is a boss you can fight (spoilers, I guess), adapting a beloved game to live-action, especially one with an R-rated stamp, might not work well.
Bloodborne fans, it may be time to move on
There's no evidence that anything is happening with Bloodborne, and as we approach its tenth anniversary, maybe it's time to throw in the towel.
It seems like everyone and their grandmother wants to adapt a video game IP, as a new one is announced almost every week. How well Amazon's Fallout TV series has done and Netflix's Castlevania have made video games before it become a gold mine for movie and TV producers.
As for the game, Bloodborne remains high on the list of remasters, remakes, or sequels that fans have been praying for. Recently, we learned that FromSoftware had turned down an offer for a Bloodborne remake before Bluepoint Games shut down. Bluepoint has specialized in remakes and remasters, and would have been the ideal studio to bring the game back. Unfortunately, its closure is just another nail in the coffin of a potential remake.
