It's been almost a year since we got any concrete information about Grand Theft Auto 6. On May 6, 2025, 357 days ago, Rockstar dropped the game's second trailer four days after it was delayed. The trailer was accompanied by a website featuring dozens of new screenshots and details on the game's main cast, including dual protagonists Jason and Lucia. Since then, it's been radio silent, though.
That's likely going to change within the next month, however, as Rockstar parent company Take-Two will release its fourth-quarter and full-year fiscal 2026 results on Thursday, May 21, with a webcast scheduled for the same day. Here, the company will likely be forced to field questions about its hotly anticipated upcoming title.
We'll almost certainly get Grand Theft Auto 6 news within the next month
Marketing for GTA 6 is miles behind GTA 5, closer to its release. With seven months to go until launch, if there are no further delays, GTA 6 has received basically zero marketing. There is an argument that it is not really necessary, but GTA 5 was tons. The media and press went hand-in-hand with the game at this point, its director was interviewed, and billboards could be found in major cities around the world, including New York.
May 21 can Mark the start of GTA 6's marketing cycle, with questions to be asked to Take-Two and Rockstar on its full-year earnings call.
Investors will almost certainly want to know what's going on with the game, given its silence over the past year, and the company will have no choice but to answer them. However, even when news is almost certain to come, there's no guarantee it's what fans want to hear.
In November last year, GTA 6 was delayed from May 2026 to November 2026, moments before the company delivered its earnings results that day. After these union-busting allegations, more than 30 Rockstar employees were fired. In a later interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick refused to rule out further delays but said he was “confident of the date”.
Further reports in January this year suggested that the game was not yet “content complete”, with insider and reporter Jason Schrier suggesting that it was “hard to say” if there would be any delays.
It is impossible to predict which direction the news will go this time. The optimist in me wants to believe that Rockstar and Take-Two will open the floodgates, reaffirming GTA 6's November 19 release date and doubling down (or tripling) on hyping the game up, but it's hard to shake the feeling that it's all silence because the company isn't ready to show it, and as such, another pos207, posib20 redly announcement will be made.
Either way, mark May 21st on your calendars, GTA fans, because if we don't hear anything about this before, we sure will. something That day about Grand Theft Auto 6.
