Long ago, there was a terrible war that threatened to destroy not only the Cameron Palace and its inhabitants, but also the entire city of Rota. Racing against time was the famous Ara Guardian Sir Aaron and his assistant and student Lucario. The two were trying to reach the false Tree of Beginnings, as it had the power to calm the anger of those fighting in battle.
However, Sir Aaron suddenly declares that he will not return to the palace or to Queen Rin, and imprisons Lucario in his scepter jewel, where he rests for years as he remains confused and hurt by the Ara Guardian's mysterious betrayal.
In the present day, Cameron Palace and its current ruler, Queen Elaine, celebrate Sir Aaron and his deeds in an annual event where one is selected as “Hero of the Year” and “Our Guardian” for the celebration. After Ash wins and dons a costume similar to what Sir Aaron once wore (complete with his long-lost scepter), Lucario is freed from the scepter's jewels and is surprised to learn that Sir Aaron has been missing for centuries.
When Mew arrives and takes Pikachu and Meowth to his home to play at the Tree of Beginnings, Ash vows to go to the legendary place and find his best friend, while Pikachu and Meowth learn more about Mew and its connection to the legendary habitat. Reluctant and only for Queen Elaine, Lucario tags along on the journey while trying to decipher its memories.
A story that is surprisingly different from the previous films

Different from others Pokemon movie, Pokemon: Secrets of Lucario and Mew Doesn't feature battles as a central plot point, at least not in the modern day. Aside from the war flashbacks and the festival at the beginning of the film, the film focuses more on the journey the characters must take and how they must learn to get along.
Lucario, who was betrayed by Sir Aaron, cannot be trusted except for Queen Elaine, as she is a descendant of Queen Rin. Aura Pokémon is especially unable to trust Ash, because it believes that one day, the young trainer will abandon his Pikachu. However, as time passes and their arguments begin to subside, Lucario is able to see that Ashley truly cares about her friends and that not all humans will betray their Pokémon.
Pokemon: Secrets of Lucario and Mew Shown mostly from Lucario's perspective, Aura is how Pokémon view their home in the past and future. In a land both familiar and unfamiliar, Lucario tries to make sense of Sir Aaron's last words, and the lessons he learned about the aura as a whole as a Fighting/Steel-type. While this movie doesn't rely on battles as much as previous movies in the franchise, Lucario's journey is more atmospheric, terrifying, yet hopeful. What Lucario learns is sure to bring peace of mind to the Pokémon at the same time, thanks to the power of the Flower of Time and the legendary Tree of Beginnings.
Besides the emotional and often heartwarming story, the animation featured in this movie is an absolute treat. Colors are vibrant but can be toned down more when needed, making flashback scenes especially dreamlike. The soundtrack itself is also beautiful, both upbeat and bright but also ethereal and a little sad. Such elements, when combined, really bring the setting and characters of this film to life.
