LEGO is retiring the Legend of Zelda Great Deku Tree set

After years of asking and submitting designs to Idea, Lego finally released its first Legend of Zelda set in 2024. Now, less than two years later, Lego has quietly revealed that if you don't buy its Great Deku Tree set soon, you're missing out.

Lego usually doesn't tend to scream when they plan to send their old sets out to pasture. It's up to those who keep tabs on them to see if a “retiring soon” badge has been added to their store page, and that's exactly what happened with Zelda's two-in-one Great Deku Tree.

Lego has finally revealed its next Lord of the Rings set, and its huge

Lego's Minas Tirith is real, and it's one of the greatest sets of all time.

The only problem with Lego's soon-to-retire badge is that there's no way to know for sure what “soon” means. Presumably this means that it has a limited amount of stock left and no more of that set will be produced. This means that once Lego runs out of a set currently available, that set will most certainly not be available for purchase again. At least not the new ones.

Not only is Zelda an incredibly popular IP – Nintendo's biggest since Mario, so Link has been selected for Lego Duty – but word of the Lego Deku Tree's impending retirement is already spreading. At $300, this is an expensive set. One that some people might like to look at, but because of the price they've held off on buying for as long as possible. Now those people are going to potentially pull the trigger, as if they don't, they'll lose their chance.

That means this set won't be around for very long. Worse, even when a set is retiring, Lego usually doesn't lower the price. That almost certainly won't be the case for Zelda's debut set. Lego knows that pointing out that it's retiring soon will get people to buy it before it's too late.

Maybe that means more new Zelda Lego sets are coming

The timing of the Deku Tree set's retirement is a bit odd. Although this is something of a quiet period for the Zelda series, business is picking up, seemingly very soon. The same source that claims a new Star Fox game is coming also mentions that it will follow an Ocarina of Time remake, so since Star Fox's claims are proven correct, it makes sense that the Ocarina part of those leaks is also correct.

While an Ocarina remake hasn't been officially confirmed, we're definitely getting a Zelda movie, whose release date was recently pushed forward a week. You'd think Nintendo would want to put a big, expensive Lego set out there that new fans could buy after watching the movie. Maybe that means more Zelda Legos are coming. At least, there's a new Zelda set released earlier this year that depicts Link's final battle against Ganondorf from Ocarina.
