The Great Jaw Clam is found in Leviathan Tufa Towers area, in the south-west corner of Proteus. It is about 350 meters south-west of Lifepod.

You can use Wander Blackbox as a guide. Once you reach the pit where Wander was found, head south into the depths.

You don't need to be technically advanced to get to Great Joe, the high-capacity air tank and tadpole vehicle make reaching and navigating the area around Clam Leviathan very easy.

At the center of the Great Job are lithium deposits, which you must break with the Sonic Resonator before you can collect them. You'll also find two pieces of portable oxygen dispensers, which will unlock a blueprint when scanned.

Look for purple rope-like strands in the center of the pod. When tripped, they will close a large jaw around you.

Get started with Lifepod:
To get to Great Joe, the best place for you to start is where your journey began, the Lifepod. Here's a brief list of items I've found useful when out on the Clam Leviathan:

If you die make sure to set a Lifepod – or a nearby dwelling you've built – as the location to print your new body. You don't want to end up in a biobed on the opposite side of the map you forgot you built earlier in the game.
Visit Wander Blackbox:
If you haven't visited the area yet, the best way to get in the general direction is to use the Wander Blackbox sign. You can do this in the “Signal” tab of the main menu.
Once you have the “wander” signal activated, head south-west along the cliff edge that separates the shallow part of the seafloor to the south from the deep area. You can follow this rock directly to Wander.
Go south of the Great Joe Clam Leviathan:
When you reach the large spider-crab-shaped coral that covers the hole where the Wander Blackbox is, you can turn south and go deeper over the reef. You should see a large section of ruins not too far away.

As you walk past the ruins, you'll see the giant Great Jaw Clam Leviathan on view. You will notice that there is an oxygen tunic on the side of the rock, which allows you to get plenty of air before going to the center.
Be careful! If you go to a depth of 100 meters, you will lose oxygen capacity, which means your air will run out very quickly. This is especially dangerous when you are going to the center of the Great Job, and your focus is on the purple trip wires. Don't be like me, who suffocated three times in a row because I was trying to escape the jaws of death.
