Changes to PlayStation Trophies may be in the works

PlayStation Some changes to the trophy system may be planned, according to a new survey Sony is currently making the rounds. Although the PlayStation Trophy system has been around for three console generations, a new survey could give users more control over what achievements are displayed.

Since its 2020 launch, the PS5 has continuously added new features for players to use. In the May 2026 firmware beta update, Sony quietly revealed a player count tracking widget for the console's Welcome Hub. The Player Count widget will be split into a Trending tab that tracks games by gameplay time, and a Top 10 tab that shows the weekly player count of various titles. Given that the feature is still in beta, it remains to be seen when PlayStation's new player count widget will be ready for full release.

It appears that a security loophole involving PlayStation Accounts is allowing hackers to gain access to users' PSN profiles with little difficulty.

PlayStation is doing a survey about trophies

As more players collect platinum trophies in various PlayStation titles, Sony has sent out a new survey for users to fill out. After earning a trophy, users can see a prompt at the top right of the screen asking how satisfied they are with the trophies. After responding to the pop-up, the user will be sent an email after some time. The survey includes some options to agree or disagree with specific questions, as well as some open boxes that ask how the PlayStation Trophy experience could be improved. As of this writing, it's unclear how long Sony's new survey will be up for, so users prompted to respond should do so while they have the chance.

A possible PlayStation Trophy rework could follow what Microsoft did for Xbox's achievement system. In April 2026, Microsoft announced that players will have more control over Xbox achievements, including a profile highlight when 100% of game achievements are unlocked. Additionally, Xbox players can hide games from their profile, which has been one of the most requested changes from users over the years. Thus hidden games have no effect on the user's GamerScore.

News of the PlayStation Trophy survey comes amid a busy week for Sony and its customers. As of May 20, the cost of PlayStation Plus was increased due to ongoing global market conditions. PlayStation Plus Essential saw a $1 price increase, from $9.99 to $10.99 per month. Additionally, monthly prices for PlayStation Plus' Extra and Premium tiers increased by $2 to $16.99 and $19.99 per month, respectively. The PlayStation Plus price hike comes a month after the PS5 saw a price hike across the board. Currently, the PS5 Digital Edition costs $599.99, which is a $100 increase from the previous $499.99 price tag.

However, Sony will soon have a chance to show that it's working. The June 2 State of Play will give users a look at upcoming PS5 titles, such as Marvel's Wolverine. Considering that the upcoming presentation will last more than an hour, it stands to reason that some new PS5 console features such as a reworked trophy system may be introduced. However, it remains to be seen what Sony's plans are for the June 2 broadcast.
