Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Dev Apologizes For Harsh Platinum

If there's one complaint about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, aside from the fact that it may have overstayed its welcome just a little bit, it's the fact that its Platinum Trophy isn't for the faint of heart.

In fact, among platinum trophies, it's especially brutal, essentially requiring perfection in every aspect of the game, which is already long. Go figure, Naoki Hamaguchi knows that things can get pretty tough for even the most diehard of Final Fantasy players.

As first spotted by Push Square , in a new interview with Restart.Run , Hamaguchi essentially apologized for putting Final Fantasy 7 fans through such an ordeal. When asked if there was one thing he wanted to reevaluate, he quickly pointed to the trophies.

“We prepared an incredibly diverse range of content as an open-world game for Rebirth, designing the overall game with a philosophy where players can choose what they want to engage with,” explained Hamaguchi. “That said, the termination conditions for trophies ultimately required the complete elimination of every element of the game, which in hindsight may have been a bit much.

“When our intention was to expand the freedom of experience, we may have inadvertently introduced a different kind of pressure.”

Forget Rebirth, the game I really want to see on Switch 2 is Final Fantasy 15

Nintendo finally has a console powerful enough to handle some absolute classics.

Things will be different in the final installment of the trilogy

However, since the Final Fantasy 7 remake project is a trilogy, fans can expect it to be easier when the third installment begins. Or, at least, one that is fun.

“The final installment of the remake trilogy features a more diverse world and game design that is filled with different content,” said Hamaguchi. “In addition, we've adjusted the balance around trophies, giving more thought to whether earning them is fun in itself or whether they restrict the breadth of the experience.”

As it stands, only 12.31 percent of players have achieved the game's Platinum trophy, according to PSNProfiles, which tracks registered users. It employs about 13,511 players. “Completing all of Chaldee's combat simulations,” the Silver Trophy is the rarest in the game.

All this sounds like music to the ears of trophy hunters, so here's hoping for an easy platinum.
