After years of fan demand on social media, a one-of-a-kind mystery anime series A strange taxi was released on Blu-ray in North America by Crunchyroll On Blu-ray in October 2025. It marked the first time adaptations of Kazuya Konomoto and Takeichi Abaraya's work had been made available in the format outside of Japan, and after getting my hands on it, it was definitely worth the wait. The quirky series, which won Best Protagonist and Best Director at the 6th Annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards, is set to hit the small screen in 2021. Viewers have quickly fallen in love with its characters, writing and ubiquitous art style. Set in a world of anthropomorphic animals, it made an instant impression, and Crunchyroll is giving fans a chance to bring the action home.
A strange taxi Hiroshi Odokawa follows a 41-year-old Walrus taxi driver who is painfully antisocial, stemming from the fact that his parents dropped him off at elementary school. However, being a taxi driver inevitably means chatting with customers, and Hiroshi often finds himself engaging in conversation with many riders seeking his services in Tokyo. These chats slowly unravel into a collection of mysteries and conspiracies, including the case of a missing high school girl. Because of the latter, both the police and the yakuza realize that Hiroshi's dashcam may reveal what happened to him. It's a perfect example of an anime series that can be binged in one sitting, and one that viewers won't soon forget.

With the release of Odd Taxi: The Woods, many fans of the series and its new film want more anime like this.
Crunchyroll's Strange Taxi Blu-Ray release is a must-have for fans of 2021's most unexpected hits.
Over the past few years, there has been a resurgence of interest in physical media, with many fans choosing to invest in their own personal libraries rather than engaging with streaming services. While Crunchyroll's catalog is strong and always adding new content, the company is also meeting this new surge in demand, releasing many classic and recent series on DVD and Blu-ray. While streaming A strange taxi Still a choice, the Blu-ray's quality is a step up, with its native 1080p high definition 16:9 aspect ratio making even the tiniest details pop on my 65″ television. Both Japanese and English audio are available, and Dolby TrueHD certainly has the crispness that enhances the dialogue and sound of the episode 3 series.

Unfortunately, the Blu-ray release A strange taxi Except for the reversible cover and the slipcase, it's not packed with any extra physical stuff. Many other recent Crunchyroll releases are packaged with bonuses to display on your shelf, but this one is a simple case. Packed with a new art book, soundtrack outtakes CD, 3D Odokawa figurine and more, an official Blu-ray box was released in Japan in limited quantities, but in 2026 it might not be easy to get your hands on one of these rare items. Still, having the option to pop the series onto your shelf is telling.
The Complete Strange Taxi Collection on Blu-ray costs $69.98, but it's discounted to $53.18 for subscribers. While currently on backorder, the release is scheduled to be back in stock on July 30, 2026.
The lack of bonus bells and whistles may disappoint some
As far as bonus features go, the two-disc set includes textless versions of the opening and ending themes, a promotional video, and commercials for the series, all clocking in at about five minutes of extras. It's not much in the grand scheme of things, but it's a good time to be able to more deeply appreciate the hand-drawn feel of the opening theme. Similarly, the hypnotic ending animation of Hiroshi's taxi speeding through Suzuko Mimori's “Sugarless Kiss” was a surprisingly relaxing experience.

fans of A strange taxi Those who don't want to lose access to the series or just want to show their support for the creator won't regret picking up this Blu-ray release. Those hoping for more bells and whistles may find themselves a little disappointed, though it's a huge win for Crunchyroll to listen to the fans and physically release the show. Perhaps a few bonus sketches or creator interviews wouldn't have gone amiss, but for the price, this is still a solid offering for any anime fan's growing collection of physical media.
