Nintendo could pit Ocarina of Time or Duskbloods against GTA 6

Nintendo's latest Direct helped fill its remaining 2026, just as Switch 2 owners were starting to worry. It didn't go so far as to reveal what it will be putting on its latest console in the final two months of the year, though it does seem to reveal a bit more about what those games are going to be.

Nintendo releases one first-party game per month. It has maintained that consistency throughout the Switch 2's first year, and shows that it plans to continue that trend through the rest of 2026. Star Fox this month, Splatoon Raiders in July, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave in September and Nintendo Switch Sports Resort in October.

There is a gap in August for now, I know. We'll get to that.

Is Nintendo planning to compete with GTA 6?

Couldn't say which game will be released this November, though I'm sure we'll see it. A possible reason for this is the elephant Rockstar has in the video game release room that is GTA 6. The now packed release schedule of September and October is proof that every studio is trying to avoid it, maybe even Nintendo, in order to launch a game.

Or, maybe not. Tuesday's live came to a close with confirmation that the rumored The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is real. Not only that, it is releasing in 2026. It's surprising that we don't have an exact release date for this big game within the next six months. My guess is because it will be released in November, but Nintendo doesn't want to say it out loud yet.

The reason for this could be that Nintendo is trying to figure out exactly what will be the biggest game of the year in November. It usually releases games a week before Black Friday, a strategic move because people buy consoles when they go on sale before the holiday, and usually buy new games.

Ocarina of Time Or The Duskbloods Vs. GTA 6

The evening red moon.

If Nintendo does that this year, that game will be going head-to-head with GTA 6 anyway, something no one else in the industry has the guts to do. Well, except for that Barbie collection and the Godzilla remaster. However, if one keeps looking at GTA, it is not only Nintendo, but a remake of what many consider to be the greatest game of all time.

Another big Switch 2 exclusive that didn't get a release date was The Duskbloods. However, it was confirmed that FromSoftware's multiplayer Nintendo game will receive a closed network test this summer. My guess is that it fills the Switch 2's August hole, and then the full game is either released that month or it's saved for December. Duskbloods will be huge, but if anything on Switch 2 is going to try and breathe air like GTA 6, it has to be Ocarina of Time.
