Long before Frieza's Death Beam, it was a way to fire a highly focused beam of Ki to pierce through an opponent's defenses, which it did to Goku and nearly killed him.

The King Piccolo arc was about to end with Goku's death, as the villain seemed mobile enough while the hero himself had broken bones and was heavily damaged. As a last ditch effort, Goku pulled out a Kamehameha from one hand to propel himself towards the villain at great speed, using which he raised his fist and struck the Demon King, killing him in the process. Many fans compare this attack as the inspiration for Dragon Fist.

Story Arc: 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament Arc
Once Piccolo reincarnated and participated in the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, his strength proved to be as great as Goku's own. At one point, Piccolo became a giant and unleashed an incredibly powerful release of energy in his explosive Demon Wave attack. With this, he managed to destroy Papaya Island and the stage of the World Martial Arts Tournament, leaving behind nothing but a large crater.

Vegeta proved to be a superior fighter to the Z-Fighters during the Sayan Saga. To fight the enemy, it required the combined efforts of Goku, Krillin, and Gohan to ensure that the Spirit Bomb that Goku created connected to the villain, nearly killing him. Story Arc: Android Saga
Despite failing to do so against Frieza, Vegeta eventually awakens the legendary Super Saiyan transformation in the Android Saga. In this form, he fought against Android 19 and completely humiliated him, not only scaring him but also the machine's experience. The battle eventually culminated in his incredible Big Bang attack, which was a Ki force that had unparalleled destructive potential when connected. The result was a large crater, a towering mushroom cloud, and Android 19 removed.
