This provided a lot of positive momentum for the game, which many felt would not be able to continue into Season 14.

Diablo 4's new rarity is a complete game-changer
A new Diablo 4 item considered rare in the game has finally surfaced almost a month after Lord of Hatred's release.
Diablo 4 Season 14 PTR response has players worried
Diablo 4The 3.1 PTR for the upcoming Season 14 ran between June 2 and 9, and the response from and after the community was brutal. A Reddit thread started by user EXIIL1M_Sedai claimed that the weather mechanic – Pandemonium Ruptures – is simply “standing in a circle, hoping not to get a shot and praying to RNGesus on your knees.” Many in the thread agreed with the sentiment, suggesting that they would skip Season 14 if nothing changed regarding the seasonal mechanic. Some took issue with the fact that there doesn't seem to be that much new content on the way, while others criticized how RNG-based the game could be in Season 14.

That's part of the issue Diablo 4 Season 14's main seasonal mechanic is based around a certain activity, which affects the game at any given time. One of the best examples is Season 10's Chaos Armor, which remains one of the most popular Diablo 4 Seasonal mechanics to date. This affects how players put their builds together and gives them options that affect every decision they make. Not every seasonal mechanic will be as popular as the last, but it looks like Season 14 may prove to be particularly unpopular with players.
Negativity towards the initial impression of Diablo 4 Season 14 may have been partially boosted by the massive positivity surrounding Season 13. Season 13 didn't have a specific seasonal mechanic to speak of, but its popularity Lord of Hate More means it was one of the most highly-acclaimed seasons to date. Given that there was a slight feeling that the new Warlock class was lacking among players, it's all the more impressive that Season 13 was as popular as it was.
It's worth remembering that PTR is about gathering feedback for the plan Diablo 4 Updates. The idea behind holding them is that Blizzard gets a wide variety of feedback, which it can use to improve the final product. So while the feedback for the 3.1 PTR was negative, it doesn't guarantee it Diablo 4 Season 14 will be a bust. It's expected to start on June 30, so Blizzard still has some time to refine the upcoming season and address negative feedback through significant gameplay changes.
