Ghost Recon and Far Cry 7 are reported to be in trouble

Ubisoft's unannounced Ghost Recon game and Far Cry 7 are reportedly running into development issues, with devs “bracing for impact” due to the impact of management changes.

The surprisingly excellent reveal of Rayman Legends Retold and the equally exciting Assassin's Creed Black Flag: Resynced might have you thinking that the development problems Ubisoft suffered at the beginning of the year (RIP, Prince of Persia), but that's not quite the case. Their upcoming project has been in the works for some time, with little to show for it outside of reports.

Take another unannounced Ghost Recon game, for example, which has been reported for quite some time now but has yet to be officially announced. There's also Far Cry 7, which hasn't been officially unveiled but there have been several reports, including one recently claiming that the product was being used to test AI. Now, it's being reported that both games are really struggling through their development.

Earlier today, Insider Gaming, who are incredibly reliable when it comes to Ubisoft games, shared a report about some issues being faced by another Ghost Recon game, codenamed Project OVR. According to Insider Gaming's sources, those working on the new Ghost Recon are “bracing for impact” due to recent management changes.

A memo shared with the site reveals that Project OVR failed to meet internal alpha objectives, resulting in Ubisoft bringing on Bruno Galet as a senior producer on the project, along with VP of Production Jean-Baptiste Duval and VP of Global Creative Office Julien Sansalon playing a more “present for the day-to-day game.”

The reasoning behind the failed objectives is reportedly due to “unrealistic deadlines and poor planning and management”, with alternative production plans being rejected by Ubisoft. A source also said that emails received about Ghost Recon mean “things are in a bad way”.

Ubisoft sees the next Ghost Recon as a priority, and thinks the foundation of the game is “strong”, even with development issues.

While Insider Gaming's report focuses on Ghost Recon, editor-in-chief Tom Henderson shared the article on Twitter and said that development of the next Far Cry game is “overwhelming.” He also shared that Ghost Recon was intended to launch this fiscal year, but has been pushed to another, while Far Cry's planned release is unknown because things are changing so quickly.
