Control Resonant won't be slowing down from September because it's “unique enough” to stand out

No one wants to start their game close to GTA 6. Well, except for Devolver Digital, who are releasing the game on game day, but that's pretty much it. As a result, many publishers have shifted their game release dates to September or February, giving Rockstar a wider berth. The only problem with this is that they all had the same idea, which meant some games had to be moved around even more to avoid these busy release windows.

However, it does not seem that treatment is affected by any of these factors. The studio's CEO, Jean-Charles Goudechon, has already argued that games launching closer to GTA 6 will benefit from this, rather than stopping later. And now, the devs are making it clear that they're not afraid of all the other games launching at the same time.

Control Resonant is “unique enough” to stand out, despite it launching on the same day as Silent Hill: Townfall

Jesse and Dylan Fadden on Control Resonant.

This came up in an interview between our feature lead, Jade King, and Control Resonant's lead gameplay designer, Sergey Mokhov.

“It's a good year to be a player, isn't it?” Mohov says. “I'm excited for all those things. I've already played a demo for Onimusha [Way of the Sword]. It's going to be a great year for gaming.”

Touching on control in particular, he makes it clear that he's not afraid to start in a busy window. “We fixed this date a long time ago. It was fixed for a while,” he says. “Ultimately, we're going to deliver a really polished, great experience and a very complete experience for players on that date. We're very confident in the game we're going to deliver, and we think it's unique enough that people will buy it and enjoy it.”

Control Resonant launches on September 24, 2026. That gives it about a two-month gap from GTA 6's November 19 release date, but there's plenty of other competition. Hell, there are other games launching on the same day too, like Silent Hill: Townfall, and Onimusha: Path of the Sword launching the next day.

We're starting to see publishers ignore September the same way they ignore November. Valor Mortis is now set to hit us on October 13, 2026 between Rush and GTA 6. Fable is now starting on February 23, 2027, but February now seems almost as full as September.
