After Ocarina of Time and Star Fox, another N64 remake of Switch 2 seems obvious
After Ocarina of Time and Star Fox, the Switch 2 already has the perfect opening to give a remake of another classic N64 title.
Elliot's Adventures embraces Zelda's inspiration
Few adventure series are as high-profile The Legend of ZeldaAnd it is surprising that its influence can be seen in the genre. The formula of traversing the world map from a top-down perspective, conquering puzzle-filled dungeons and finding an arsenal of new tools along the way was essentially perfected by 2D. Zelda Like a classic A link to the past (An extremely influential series entry that is still my personal favorite Zelda game never). Some of the most acclaimed indie titles of recent years, such as Acid Nerve's crow-filled 2021 hit Death's GateEmbrace some of these elements, and now here comes a similar AAA effort from Square-Enix.

Right from the title screen, the game's HD-2D art explodes with charm, and it's a very different beast from the best HD-2D JRPGs. Octopath Traveler. It's an action RPG in which our hero, Elliot, battles enemies in the overworld as he traverses the dangerous land he inhabits. An adventurer in the Indiana Jones vein, Elliot is sent by order of the King of Hooters to explore a set of mysterious ruins. To do so he must leave the city's mighty walls, and that means sticking with the Beastmen who occupy most of the area. There's a long story to dive into here, and if you're trying to collect absolutely everything, you'll have your hands full for hours.
The title opens slowly. Elliot starts with a simple slash attack with a sword and a charge attack (activated by holding the button), as well as a shield for blocking. As you progress, you will find different types of weapons and equipment as well as all kinds of Magicite for each weapon, an item that allows for many interesting customizations. One of the first pieces of extra equipment available in the prologue demo, Spin Back, is the first boomerang. It's around this point that it becomes so extreme to the players ZeldaLike Square-Enix's new game is

with Final Fantasy ResonanceThe series is taking its first bold step into the world of HD-2D. If Zelda If the series had to be reimagined in this style, it would be so awesome Eliot. The motivation for Link's adventure is pretty plain to see. When I first walked out of the city gates with my boomerang, shield and sword, Elliott felt like a Link cosplayer as possible. As the overworld begins to open up to you, and you discover the main dungeons like the Desert Caves and the smaller alternates (which offer some suspiciously Heart Piece-esque collectibles and other items), this feeling only grows.

It's deeper than that. It is about the way Elliot interacts with the world around him. Tools and weapon pieces also double as traversal tools, in somewhat predictable ways. For example, moments after leaving the city wall, Elliot passes a section of the wall that has a very prominent crack. If you've ever played Zelda In the game, you quickly guessed that the bombs would unlock at some point, and made a mental note to return them to this location as soon as possible. This is a time-honored way to destroy rocks and crack walls.
This is my favorite kind of game design: not hopelessly difficult, but requiring resourceful use of everything in your arsenal and a keen eye for detail. The rewards from some of the optional challenge areas are great, but they'll test you in all sorts of clever ways. All this, for me personally, is the pinnacle of Zelda-esque fun, but more importantly, it has the same charm. The enemies are oddly charming, the cities are quaint and atmospheric, and the different dungeon designs are a joy to explore (areas like the Water Ruins can be as difficult as they are).
Elliot's Adventure doesn't copy Link's homework too closely
Despite all this, it would be unfair and untrue to say so The Adventures of Eliot just “burst” Zelda. Although it shares many of the same vibes, it's its own beast in many ways. Elliott's title, as an action RPG, is very combat-oriented. That combat, along with dashes and other evasive moves, as well as all the customization options offered by the Magicite system, feels very deep to me. It might not be the case when you first start the game, but the steady acquisition of new weapons and options means it's a system that's always evolving. It's like something like this Diablo series, in which you can find your favorite weapons and customizations and develop a powerful build around them. Faie's upgrades and powers also add more variety.

The story itself takes some turns that Nintendo's franchise hasn't really explored in the same way. I won't dive into it too much since it's for the players to explore for themselves, but I will say that some fascinating things happen in the kingdom. As they do, one thing I'm really happy about is the voice acting. There are also the personalities of these characters and their portraits that are really pushed to a new level here. You can too, and I can't stress this enough, fellow cats. Lots of cats.
finally, The Adventures of Eliot: The Millennium Tales no The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It's not claiming, nor will its launch, have the same impact as this new remake of one of the most beloved video games of all time (although fans are divided when it comes to some of the changes made to the classic). what Eliot Yes, though, an incredibly timely arrival: if you're eager to play Ocarina of Time Remake, we sadly don't know if we'll get a chance to play it. However, in the meantime, Eliot It is a fantastic appetizer for the main course; the most Zelda-like non-Zelda I think I've never played.
