A remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was announced back in 2021, but we haven't seen anything of it since then. In fact, whatever version of the game was in development at the time has been scrapped, as the project traded from Aspyr to Saber.
That was a while ago, and yet, we haven't seen anything. Even Embracer and Disney have dodged questions about it, and there has been no evidence of life in years. However, there is a good chance that will change very soon.
A reliable source says that we are getting another KOTOR reveal this year
YouTuber 100% Star Wars says he heard from his source that the KOTOR remake is coming out again this year.
“As I've mentioned before, the development of the game has not only grown, but it's run extremely smoothly over the past three years since Saber started from scratch,” says 100% Star Wars.
He says he is aware of a “disclosure planned for this year”.
“As of this second, it's still planned to be revealed sometime this year,” he says. “Which likely means that 2027 is going to be the year where marketing for the KOTOR remake really begins in some capacity.”
He speculates that, if there is a delay, it will coincide with the Star Wars festival in early 2027. But with that being said, there are plenty of opportunities to showcase the KOTOR remake, like Gamescom Opening Night Live and The Game Awards, or perhaps one of the bigger publisher showcases like Sony's State of Play.
100% Star Wars has already revealed details about the troubled development of the KOTOR remake before anyone else, so there's a good chance it's true. If so, it could mean that the remake isn't as far off as we feared — or worse, outright canceled.
It was also previously claimed that Disney is interested in a remake of Kotor 2. There is no word on which studio will be pitching it, and it could all depend on the success of this remake. In fact, there is a lot of pressure on the team to deliver after this time.
