Alden Ring Nightrain may be referring to Bloodborne Lady Maria

summary

  • Just a few days ago, FromSoft surprised us all with Elden Ring Nightreign, a standalone roguelike adventure.

  • That's not all, though, Nightrain includes a bunch of mechanics and characters from Fromsoft's past.

  • Some fans also think that Bloodborne Lady Maria is referenced with a currently unknown character.

Bloodborne fans think the Alden Ring may be a reference to the mysterious character Lady Maria in the reveal trailer for Nightrain. That may seem like a reach, but stay with us here.

Despite previously claiming it wasn't doing anything with Elden Ring, Fromsoft surprised us all at the Game Awards when it announced Elden Ring Nightreign, a standalone roguelike take on the base game that lets you team up with two other friends. Go up against a group of deadly, and very familiar, enemies.

Alden Ring Nightrain contains some Dark Souls bosses

The Anonymous King is a gimme, but have you found the other two?

Besides being a continuation of Alden Ring that none of us expected to see so soon, the most surprising thing about Nightrain is how it brings a bunch of features from previous Fromsoft games. The trailer showed off a bunch of bosses and enemies from Dark Souls, such as the Parasitic Spider and the Centipede Demon, while hinting at mechanics from Sekiro like climbing up walls.

Is Nightrain referencing Bloodborne Lady Maria?

Further deep dives into Nightreign have made it clear that FromSoft is collecting a bunch of known ideas and characters for the game, and that seems to apply to Bloodborne as well. At one point in the trailer, Lady Maria, a mysterious character wearing a white ponytail and robes, is shown with a dagger scar in a very familiar way.

From the moment the Nightrain trailer was released, Bloodborne fans have highlighted the character, with some choosing to believe it is actually Lady Maria in the Eldon Ring universe. While that hasn't been confirmed yet, considering how many other bosses and characters from Fromsoft's games are here, it's not the most far-fetched thing. That is if FromSoft can even own Sony's Bloodborne.

On Twitter and the Elden Ring subreddit, many fans are pointing out the similarities between the two and discussing whether it could really be him. Although there are some true believers, most have settled on the idea that this is a good callback and one that invokes the vibe of Lady Maria as a callback to Bloodborne.

We won't know for sure until Nightrain begins in 2025, but it's undeniable that the character is at least meant to be thought of as Lady Maria, an effect it clearly achieves. Now what about that Bloodborne remaster, Fromsoft?
