An unannounced Metroid game appears to have been leaked by the ratings board

Metroid as a franchise is in a bit of a tough spot at the moment. It's very popular, and Metroid Prime 4 was relatively well received, but it didn't really have the sales you'd expect from a proper Nintendo blockbuster. This has many fearing that Nintendo might decide to leave Metroid to gather dust for a while, but thankfully, that doesn't seem to be the case.

A new Metroid game may be leaked

Earlier today, it was spotted by Twitter user Necrolip that the Brazilian ratings board may have inadvertently leaked the name of a new 2D Metroid game currently in development for the Nintendo Switch 2. That rating has since been deleted, but the name of the game is apparently Ratroid Metroid before people get their screenshots.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was never going to be the game you wanted it to be

Turns out rebooting Metroid Prime 4 was out of the question.

Not only that, it also claims that the game will be released at some point in 2026. This is the first we've heard of the game, and given the criminally underwhelming footage we've seen of the Ocarina of Time remake, we can only assume we're getting another Nintendo Direct at some point in September of this year.

There we will likely see the announcement of Metroid Ravenous, if it actually exists. While this is pretty solid evidence, and it's been a few years since the last 2D Metroid game (with Metroid Dread returning in June 2021), it's worth noting that this isn't official confirmation. It's best to hold off on expectations until we see what the game is all about, but seeing as it's reportedly releasing this year, it'll be sooner rather than later.
