Starting with Season 29 Overclock, Apex Legends Players will be able to retrieve their squadmates in their death box. Over the years, of course, Apex Legends Respawning has been tweaked (a mobile respawn beacon was added in 2020, for example), but being able to do so from a death box is the biggest change so far.
In addition, it is worth noting that there are also some changes in healing Apex Legends. Players will be able to heal in chains and queues so they don't miss a moment between activating them, which can be toggled, and health bar visibility is being tweaked to prevent players from seeing them. Overall, Season 29 will take a look at health, healing, and regeneration, and it will be interesting to see how that plays out. For that, Gamerant recently spoke Apex Legends Lead BR designer Eric Canavese about these death box respawns.
Apex Legends is now a whole new game

Talking Death Box Respawn with Lead BR Designer of Apex Legends
In short, as soon as a squadmate goes down, players will be able to retrieve them in their death box. The big caveat here is that it's essentially “if you have a mobile response beacon in your back pocket all the time,” Canaves says. There's a long cast to do that, and a lot of visual and sound effects associated with it. In other words, everyone in the immediate area will know that a revival is taking place. Other than that, the only real difference from standard respawn is that subsequent respawns increase the time required, if one goes too low.
It's not impossible to retrieve a deathbox in the middle of a firefight Apex LegendsBecause it essentially alerts all nearby players, it's not easy to do. As Canaves explained, “If your closest enemies let you get away with it, that's on them.” Of course, mid-battle respawns are going to make for some serious drama Apex LegendsBut it is more important for recovery. There are sometimes precious moments between winning a battle before being third-party, and retrieving the death box as an alternative helps in recovery and preparation for battle. Canavese explained that it's more about getting to the best parts of one Apex Legends match:
“It's shortcutting you back to being a full team and bringing you back to the most existing and best parts of the Apex experience, which is fighting with your full team and going for the win. When I play live, I miss the recovery of the death box a lot, and we've tried to make sure it's done in a way that I don't think is a cheap or unfair version of it, but we're monitoring and making sure it's easy to tweak on our end.
Apex Legends A very fast-paced battle royale game, and at that point, Canvases doesn't necessarily think death box respawn speeds up. However, they keep up with the natural pace of the game. Everyone has made the long trek to the respawn beacon before, which slows down the game, or otherwise spends a lot of unnecessary time trying to recover from an intense fight.

For standard fights, though, “it's made it so that teams need to commit to those fights and not delay because someone's going to recover and, suddenly, you're fighting at full strength again.” That said, Canvases doesn't think it's going to be revolutionary for pot shot exchanges, as it's difficult to capitalize on a pot shot down or pot shot kill, but it does ensure more commitment to a standard firefight and better recovery chances after the dust settles.
Apex Legends Season 29 releases on May 5, and it will be interesting to see how the death box responses are received by players, how effective they are in the game, and what kind of plays come out of this change.
