every year, Overwatch I absolutely hate celebrating April Fools' Day, and every year, I dread the day it ends. It is a tradition that has been going on for a long time Overwatch To release deliberately stupid updates — now labeled Underwatch — with tongue-in-cheek developer comments for each stupid change. Sometimes, developers play into community discussions when they create strange abilities given to heroes, while other times, the changes seem to be completely random. Updates are always a blast, though, and Underwatch 2026 is no different. The best changes include:
-
Reinhardt's pin can be sped up and slowed down while holding multiple enemies at once, making him a threat in turn.
-
D.Va's micro missiles are hilariously large
-
Dominoes make random shapes instead of their usual odds
-
Winston is unplayable
-
Sombra is duplicated instead of teleported via a translocator
-
Cassidy's bullet can cause blood if he says hello and waves his hand at the target
-
The second Torbjorn stacks on top of Torbjorn and mimics every action the player takes
-
Ana's sleep dart puts herself to sleep, waking her up with a nano boost
-
Lifeweaver is delightfully small
-
Jetpack Cat fires a wrecking ball through its lifeline that can hit targets
These are just a few of the awesome abilities available through the April Fools' Day mod, and along with developer jokes like Team 4 reveling in its “third-first-first melee DPS”, the mod is a must-play. On top of all this, there are silly voice lines for every single hero. These include classics like Winston just saying his name or Hanzo and Genji making dragon and sword sounds respectively, while there are some new gems like Emre's dial-up internet noise when he uses his ultimate. There's a lot to admire in Underwatch, and it's truly my favorite LTM of the year. So, for that reason, I'm obviously very oblivious OverwatchNext update on April 14th.
Overwatch reveals new Hero Sierra gameplay and abilities
Overwatch reveals in-game model, gameplay, and abilities for Sierra, the new damage hero Talon is coming to in Season 2.
Overwatch's Underwatch mode is dropping soon, and I'm devastated
Sometimes, grind through Overwatch Event challenges can be a chore, but I've been having so much fun with my Cardboard Tank titles that I really wish the mod was a permanent choice within the arcade. It's not just the fun new abilities or dumb voice lines that make me smile while playing, but it's the little touches too. Take Microsoft's Clippy Paperclip being used to hide a few more jokes about each character on the hero selection screen, something I've only noticed after several games. Or the return of Reinspeak, which sees every message sent by a Reinhardt player in text chat changed to all caps and has a quote from the great German hero. Underwatch is just a ton of fun all around, and it's a great way to relaunch the fantastic Season 1. OverwatchI'm already grieving.
Catspeak also exists now, as the jetpack cat's messages in text chat will come out as random letters like a step-on keyboard.

What makes Underwatch even sadder to lose is that some heroes feel better in the mode. Take Wuyang for example, whose Guardian Wave ability can be charged to increase its size, damage, healing and knockback. This not only makes the Waterbender more fun to play, but also makes him more knowledgeable, as he is shown sending a huge wave to his sister and teammate. Overwatch Nayak Anran in his story trailer. While many of the abilities are on the silly side—Mercy's insta-killing resurrection and Zenyatta becoming a Beyblade don't seem like they'd add to their kits—Blizzard stumbles upon changes in Underwatch that will actually be nice to see in the game's main modes. It's a lot of fun to participate in these experiments for things that might one day become real capabilities, and it's another reason why I'm a little leery of Tuesday's update.
The silver lining is the April 14 launch of Overwatch Season 2
While I'm preparing to endure another year-long wait until I get a few more weeks with the googly-eyed heroes of Underwatch, at least it'll have some good content to follow LTM. Of course, Underwatch leaves on April 14, but Season 2 begins on the same day. That means new damage hero Sierra will be playable next week, and there will be new ones Overwatch Battle pass to grind for skin. This softens the blow completely, because it would have been so sad if Underwatch had ended mid-season and there was nothing new to do. Still, the latest iteration of the mod has become some of my favorites over the years of regular hours I've played regularly. OverwatchSo I will patiently wait for its return in 2027.
