Baldur's Gate 3: Must try party setups for 24 unique playthroughs
If you want a unique playthrough of Baldur's Gate 3, these party set-ups will do the trick.
Each of these classes rely on Dexterity for their core abilities and have essential skills related to stealth, lockpicking, and trap-disarming to fill multiple party roles. Rangers have additional weapon skills and support spells, while Rogues have some devastating melee skills, and their stealth abilities are impressive.
Updated on December 24, 2024 by Christy Ambrose: Larian Studios won't be making any DLC or sequels for BG3, but Patch 8 is coming out in 2025, adding several new subclasses. This means new possibilities for players who are still having fun with creative and possibly broken character creation. For rangers and rogues, Dexterity is an important ability score, but there's also wisdom to consider when it comes to a ranger's spellcasting abilities, and each class needs to choose other details like background, feats, weapons, and gear.
Gloomstalker Assassin build
Wild and stealth damage in any environment
-
A dedicated hunter and vicious killer combined with a deadly existentialist and ruthless mercenary.
Gloomstalker Assassin is one of physical damage in either melee or ranged form, and yet another parallel between Rogues and Rangers is that they are equally effective from a distance as they are at melee damage. Whether they fight at close or long range depends on the exact build the player chooses, including their skills, abilities and gear choices.
Stealth, sleight of hand, and mastery of dexterity are just a few of the details that Rogues and Rangers share, making them a natural choice for multi-class builds.
Rangers have some support spells on hand, and certain races have cantrips available, so depending on those choices during character creation it's also possible to integrate some limited spell abilities into this build.
Ability score
Dexterity for Rogues, Intelligence for Rangers
-
Focus on physical damage and resilience as opposed to casting abilities, but don't skip spells entirely.
Both Ranger and Rogue share Dexterity as their most important stats. This would also be a spellcasting modifier if not for the ranger, who uses intelligence instead.
- Mastery: Both classes rely on Dexterity for their sleight of hand, stealth-related abilities, and weapon proficiency.
- Wisdom: Great for perception checks, and if the ranger is throwing off-heel or even de-curse they need a higher Intelligence for accurate casting.
- Constitution: High constitution means more hit points, and it's a combat class, so it's a medium priority.
- Strength: One of the less important ability scores based on construction. If this character is a melee DPS fighter it can go up a few points.
- Intelligence: The “dump stat,” neither the Rangers nor the Rogues have much use for intelligence as it is tied to arcane casting power.
- Charisma: Another less important position for this build is because Rangers and Rogues are often found in the shadows or wilderness, but a creative player can make it work.

Rogues in BG3 can only wear clothes and use certain weapons, but there's virtually nothing a Ranger can't wear or carry.
