Double battles are the standard VGC format you're probably used to if you've ever watched a competitive Pokemon game. There are Pokemon that are made to be partners that do well in double battles. Many Pokemon are great for support, while others are perfect for setups.
With the right combinations on Pokemon Champions, you can create unstoppable Pokemon setups that will have your opponent begging for mercy when they see your party lineup. Of course, it all depends on the type of teams you're ultimately trying to create. Regardless of what team you want to build for, every Pokemon here is a solid choice for Double Battles.
Garchomp
Garchomp is not only good for solo battles, but it is also very good for dual battles. With access to AoE moves like Earthquake which deals good damage to both opponents, and Fury in which Garchomp will hit a random opponent for a 120 power move, and you can sweep both enemies into the opposing team, as it's a constant attack that most opponents can't survive.
Pair Garchomp with anything that isn't affected by Earthquake, with moves like Swords Dance to make Garchomp more powerful and Rock Tomb to slow down opponents, and you've got a great partner.
Pokemon Champions: 9 Best Non-Attacking Moves to Use
You don't need every trick to deal damage, you just need a good strategy.
Charizard
Charizard has great coverage, and with both X and Y options for Mega Evolution, it has enough variety to fit whatever team you're trying to build. Set up Strong Sunlight to take advantage of Charizard's speed and strength, and blast enemies with a Grass-type Solar Beam in Strong Sunlight in the same mode, and destroy any Water-type Pokemon in your path.
Pair Charizard with a partner who can set up and take advantage of weather options, and you can manipulate the battle to your preference. Burn enemies, lower opponents' stats, and make room for your partner Pokemon, all at the same time.
Primerina
Another Pokemon with a decent set of AoE attacks at its disposal, Primarina also has a Fairy-type, which helps deal with the Dragon-type Pokemon that are so popular, making her a great addition to Double Battles.
Escape moves like Flip Turn also set you up for an easy way to swap, and Hyper Voice and Surf, along with Dazzling Glaem, will hit everyone on the enemy team at once. You can also play with your opponent's stats, making it easier to chase down your partner Pokemon.
Corviknight
The Corviknight is very scary on its own, and in a dual battle, it has some essential moves that will make it a threat to the enemy team. Taunt forces an enemy to use only one attack, protecting Kroviknight and its partner, for example.
Corviknight can self-heal with Roost, and has a large variety of move types, so it can likely cover any weakness its partner might have. U-Turn is a great setup move in double fights, and a staple for most Corviknight teams.
Ekadrill
Excadrill has a lot of AoE move options that work really well in a double battle setup. Earthquake is a staple, and moves like Iron Head can help one of the two enemies you're facing, giving you an advantage. Increase Excadrill's accuracy by OHKOing its partner with Horn Drill, and help reduce the enemy battlefield with Excadrill with Swords Dance or Stealth Rock.
With Sand Rush and Sand Force as abilities, a partner that can create sandstorms for free is the perfect addition to a double fight with Excadrill, making it move faster or stronger.
Froslas
If you're looking to Mega Evolve and one of the new Ice-type Pokemon available to do so, Froslas, like the others, has an AoE option in Blizzard. Being already extremely strong, other moves like Shadow Ball and Destiny Bond can help eliminate opponents.
Aurora Veil is a great setup for dual battles, reducing damage taken from physical and special moves by 1/3 for everyone on your team. You can set up a blizzard, use your abilities, both to attack enemies and defend your team, and even mega evolve with Froslass in double battles.
Mimikyu
Mimikyu is a great double combat competitor, as its cloaking ability ensures it won't be destroyed immediately. This allows oyu to set up for your team, including skipping trick room if you're running a slow but powerful build. While most of its attacks are single target, you can get powerful Fairy and Ghost-type physical-type moves that will deal a surprising amount of damage.
These physical moves will get around resistances created by special moves, giving you a chance to take down an enemy after some setup, pairing well with a particular attacker.
Whimsicott
Whimsicott comes as the ultimate support Pokemon. Heavy enough to survive with most setup kit, you'll want one on your team for that purpose. You have Tailwind to help your team outrun the opposition, and Sunny Day for the perfect weather setup with a partner that can capitalize.
Whimsicott comes with several utility options to help reduce the damage your team takes, draw an enemy, use Encore to strengthen their hand, or use Helping Hand to strengthen your partner's attacks. This is truly the perfect double battle pokemon.
Gengar
With Mega Evolution available to you, Gengar is a good choice for double battles if you're looking for a Mega to add to your team. Your Sludge Wave will hit all Pokemon with a small percentage chance of poisoning them. Destiny Bond ensures that if Gengar goes down, one of your opponent's Pokemon will too, evening out the double battle field.
Icy Wind is another option for some decent AoE damage but mostly to slow down both of your opponents. Gengar has a lot of utility to hit multiple enemies and even the playing field, making it a great double fight option.
