Earlier today, we finally got our first good look at Avengers Doomsday , giving us a slick Doctor Doom, tons of fights, and more superheroes and villains than you can shake a stick at. It's pretty exciting if you're a Marvel fan, and you'd guess that Disney wouldn't do anything to dampen any of that hype, right?
Well, here comes the generative AI to ruin the party once again, as many fans are eyeing the official poster for the film with suspicion.
Marvel Think Disney is using AI again
If you missed it, you can see the poster above. It shows Doctor Doom standing in front of a large tapestry, with multiple angles floating around a woman and child. They are possibly Doctor Doom's dead wife and child, though that's just a theory that's been floating around since the image leaked a while ago.
That being said, the tapestry's contents make people think that Disney has at least touched up or used AI to partially generate them. On the Is This AI subreddit, the poster was the subject of a lot of intense scrutiny, with the angel's wings and the woman's middle finger on the middle key indicating something could be wrong.
Many are arguing that Angels are the greatest that AI can be used, as each angle has a different wing. For example, the angel in the upper left looks relatively normal, but in the middle right has a very thorn-shaped wing.
“I could be wrong, but the art style on the tapestry looks like an AI slop style, even though the whole picture isn't AI,” says user Comfortable-Air-6615. “Dam wings look like good forks for spaghetti,” says another comfortable_slice_11.
Other points of the picture mentioned are the borders of the tapestry, as there is no distinct pattern or density around it, and the lights at the edge of the tapestry, which almost blend into the background.
Of course, it's worth pointing out that none of this has been confirmed, and it's still up in the air whether Disney has used AI at least partially for the poster, but this isn't the first time the company has used generative AI for official marketing.
If you can even remember Secret Invasion, the opening of the show was completely AI-generated, with terrifying depictions of the human race. It's been argued that this was a deliberate choice, but it's still generative AI, and it's proof that Marvel has a history with it. Hopefully, this is not the case with Avengers Doomsday.
