Epic gives away free games through its online store all year round, but it kicks things up a notch during the holidays. Instead of giving away one or two games a week during the 2023 holiday season, Epic delivered a total of 17 games. It started its holiday program with a week-long giveaway and then proceeded to offer a free game every day for a period spanning more than two weeks.

December 24 – 25: Dredge

Dredge
Captain your own fishing boat on the dredge, going out on the water during the day so you can sell your haul after the day is over. Beneath the waves is more than just ending your wait, though.
It's Christmas Eve, or even Christmas Day as you're reading this, and Epic has saved big for one of its most important days of holiday giving—Dredge. An indie hit reaching the level of recognition most independent games could only dream of when released in 2023, and now you can pick it up for free if you see it in time. Head out into the virtual seas to discover the secrets hidden beneath the waves by fetching familiar hulls, sell what you find, and do it all the next night. It's more than I'm making it out to be and a game you should definitely try if you haven't already.
Dredge will be available to claim for free until Wednesday, December 25, 2024 at 11 a.m. EST, at which point it will be replaced by another free game in Epic's holiday giveaway.
December 23 – 24: Darker and darker – legendary status

Dark and Dark is a battle royale game with a twist. Set in a dungeon, it combines elements of games like Escape from Tarkov with D&D and roguelikes.
It's been a big and complicated year for Dark and Dark Devs. Ironmace saw the studio, which included devs who had previously worked on Nexon, be removed from Steam by Nexon after being accused of stealing assets for the game. A new dawn came for Dark & Darker when it launched on the Epic Games Store in March, and now you can claim it for free with Legendary status. Achieving legendary status will give you access to high roller dungeons, eight additional character slots, and more as you embark on an all-new quest for no money.
December 22 – 23: Wizard of Legend

Wizard of legend
Wizard of Legend is a fast-paced dungeon crawler with rogue-like elements that emphasize dynamic magical combat. Faster movement and faster use of spells will allow you to chain spells together to unleash devastating combinations against your enemies!
Wizards of Legend has arrived to bring some old-school pixel roguelike fun to Epic's ongoing holiday giveaway. Like all games – except Return to Moria – that have come before it, Wizard of Legend is free to claim for 24 hours, but once claimed it's yours to keep. Craft ten stories of challenges and enemies in this awesome top-down roguelike, learning new spells and skills each time you reach a new level. It's one of those games where you say “one more round” and before you know it, it's Christmas morning and everyone is on their way downstairs to start the festivities.
December 21 – 22: TerraTech

Teratech
TerraTech is an open world, sandbox adventure game where you design and build your own creations through a mix of crafting, combat and exploration. Design cars, tanks and planes from a huge library of blocks. Scavenge, craft and buy new parts to survive and become the ultimate planet prospector.
On the fourth day of the giveaway, Epic Games for Me – TerraTech. Of all the games released so far this year, Teratech is the most likely to occupy all your free time this Christmas season. Taking place in an open world sandbox where you build your stuff and call the shots. Even the vehicles you use are custom-built from the game's blocks. Traverse its vast world, crafting as you go and engaging in skirmishes with others you meet. A game that will keep you busy for hours if you give it a go, and if you get it now, it's free.
December 20 – 21: Astria: The Six-Sided Oracle

Astria: The six-sided oracle
Astria is a DICE-deck-building roguelike that flips the script on deckbuilders by using dice instead of cards and a unique dual “damage” system: Purification vs. Corruption. Build a dice pool strong enough to purge Astria's out-of-control corruption and save the star system.
Day three of Epic's holiday and deckbuilders rejoice because today is your day. Astria: Six-Sided Oracles is today's free game and all you have to do to claim, download and play it is to visit its store page via the link in the box above. While it's a deckbuilder, Astria turns the genre on its head by replacing cards with dice. Help hero Astria fight against their own corruption as the dice fall in your favor to cleanse them and save the star system they call home.
December 19 – 20: Vampire Survivors

One of the most popular games of 2022, Vampire Survivors puts you in a fight for survival against hordes of enemies. A roguelike shoot 'em up, it won several awards, including best game at the 2023 BAFTAs.
Back in Moria, the Vampire Survivors are in. One of the biggest and most popular indie hits of the last decade, Vampire Survivors is a two-dimensional roguelite that takes you through wave after wave of the undead. You will eventually be subject to them, but that's okay. Since it's a roguelite, you'll come out stronger and with more tools at your disposal. If you've managed to go this far without trying this simple yet endlessly fun game, you're in luck, for the next 24 hours, you can claim it for free and then keep it forever.
December 12 – 19: The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria

Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is a game focused on survival and crafting. Taking place after the events of the books, you are tasked with reclaiming the procedurally generated region of Moria.
As in 2023, Epic has kicked off its big holiday giveaway with the game available to claim for a full week instead of 24 hours like most of its successors. Destiny 2 kicked off the festival last year, and it's this year Lord of the Rings Return to Moria That drives us forward. War of Rohirrim is in line with hitting theaters, and movie buffs can make this holiday season Lord of the Rings-themed by picking up Return to Moria for free. You might as well watch the extended cuts of all three original trilogies because, well, you really should be doing that at least once a year and time is almost up.
