Differences between The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask on N64 and 3DS

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask was added to Switch Online in February, but some changes were made for its original re-release on 3DS.

Keep in mind that players can return by beating the temple and the boss, so this can always be done later. Additionally, there are slight differences in between N64/Gamecube Versions and 3DS edition. Here, the N64 version is the default, and the 3DS version will be mentioned as necessary. This guide to the fairies of Woodfall Temple will help old players remember the fairies' locations, while helping new players find them.

Getting the great angel mask

It's important to note that the Great Fairy's Mask will make this task a thousand times easier, so it's worth getting it before tackling any of the Stray Fairy quests. This mask can be obtained by helping the great angel in North Clock Town, and the single angel you need to fetch him is located in the laundry pond during the day and next to the Deku Flower in front of the East Clock Stock Pot Inn. City at night.

The first angel

Location: Entrance

When you enter the first room of Woodfall Temple, you will see an angel floating above the pit. Using the first Deku Flower, fly to the left Deku Flower platform, and turn right to face the wall. Link can fly to that Deku flower and get the angel. If players have an angel mask, they can just put it on, and the angel will come directly to Link without even moving him.

The second angel

Location: Entrance

This one is simple. When you face the wall from the first flower platform, you'll see that another platform, behind a tree trunk to the right, holds a chest. The second angel is in it. Simply glide across using the Deku Flower, then open the chest to find another angel. Because it's inside the chest, the angel mask doesn't call the angel if you use it, the mask will glow when you're close.

The third angel

Location: Main Room

Walk into another room with a large mechanical flower in the middle of a poison swamp. Bypassing the tall resurrected Deku Baba near the door, take the wooden path to the left to find another Deku Baba. Put it out of its misery to get the third angel.

The fourth angel

Location: Main Room

There are 5 vessels on a platform in the corner of this room and the fourth angel is inside one of them. From the third angel's location, cross the flowers as Deku Link and jump onto the platform to avoid the poisonous water. Link has to get to the platform with the door on the other side of the room before jumping to the corner with the pot, because he can't make it straight through the flower platform.

The fifth angel

Location: Push-Block Room

After getting the first key, go back to the main room with the third and fourth fairies and go through the locked door. In this room, move the block forward and follow the wooden path to the right, then proceed to kill the Skulltula. Link will receive an angel as a reward for his death.

The sixth angel

Location: Push-Block Room

Stay in this room and return to the wooden path to see the floating platforms above Link. On the platform directly above the wooden intersection is an angel in a hornet's nest. Use Deku Link's Bubble Blast or another projectile to shoot it down. The other nests will also drop items, but only the middle one is needed to get the angel.

The seventh angel

Location: Dark Boy Room

Above the room with five and six fairies, there is a dark room with an outrageous amount of black boys. Dispose of them all to create a treasure chest that contains the seventh angel.

Described the story of the mysterious hands of the Zelda franchise

Many Zelda games feature a mysterious character with only a hand, inspired by a real-world story that is terrifying.

Don't forget to kill the boss hiding around the torch. The exit can be confusing, but lighting all three torches in this room will remove the bars from the door, allowing Link to exit this abandoned place.

The eighth angel

Location: Main Room

3rd and 4th Angels Go back to the upper level of the main room with the large wooden flower in the center. If you come out of the door under the area with the pillars, there is an angel in a bubble to the right of the door. Grab it to get the eighth angel.

The ninth angel

Location: Golden Eye Switch Room

After defeating Dinolphos and getting the bow, follow the L-shaped path to find a hornet's nest inside the mouth of the monkey wall on the wall to the left of the eye switch. Shoot the nest to release the ninth fairy. The angel mask will call the angel to Link for easy retrieval. However, those without an angel mask can shoot the eye to activate a moving platform with a deku flower on it. Now, Link can jump down and get the angel by using Deku Link to hop into the water, then use the moving platform to get back up.

The tenth angel

Location: Push-Block Room

Without the angel mask, this angel was difficult enough to remove in the 3DS version of the game. In the 3DS version, the second floor of the Fairy Temple is in a room with floating Deku flower platforms and dragonfly enemies. The fairy is located on the lower level under the platforms, inside a bubble in the dark northeast corner of the room.

For the N64 version, backtrack to the room with the block and wooden path where the fifth angel was. Now that Link has the bow, he can go to the far end of the room near Skulltula and look under the wooden path to see the fairy. Using a bow and arrow, shoot the angel to release it from its bubble. Link needs a fairy mask to avoid damage from poisoned water.

The Legend of Zelda: The Best Versions of Majora's Mask, Ranked

Majora's Mask has had several re-releases on many different platforms over the years, but some are better than others.

Players without fairy masks have two options here. It is possible to retrieve this angel after the poison water clears after the boss is defeated. Players can jump into the water as Baby Link and swim under the walkway while it's still toxic, but it takes some skill to avoid dying. Touching the angel will heal Link, and players can then climb out of the poison water using the stairs near the door. If it is a bit difficult, it can be done with only three hearts.

The eleventh angel

Location: Main Room

Return to the main room with the mechanical flower where Fairies Three, Four and Eight were. There is a switch next to the torch that Link must press to reveal a chest containing an angel. Go to it using the upper level Deku Flower found in Fairy Eight, then switch back to Child Link and press the button. Open the chest that appears again for number eleven.

The twelfth angel

Location: Owner's Door Room

The remaining four fairies are located in the last room in front of the boss. Go down the stairs and enter the Deku Flower, turn right and fly to the right on the platform where another Deku Flower appears, and you'll see an angel in a bubble when you land.

Alternatively, for those with fairy masks, there is an easier way. Just stand in the middle of the room and pop the fairy bubble with an arrow, then let the mask do the rest.

The Thirteenth Angel

Location: Owner's Door Room

This is above the last one. Keep climbing the alcoves using the Deku Flowers until Link reaches the top, and the thirteenth angel will be located inside a bubble in the last alcove.

The fourteenth angel

Location: Owner's Door Room

Return to the main Deku Flower under the stairs and travel up as before, but to the left instead. Another angel in a bubble appears here. This is the fourteenth angel.

Again, for those who have it and want to save time, the angel mask is easy to use. Instead of climbing up the left side of the room, stay where the twelfth angel is. Then, look across the room to see another angel in a bubble. Pop the bubble, and let the mask do its work.

Fifteenth Fairy

Location: Owner's Door Room

After getting the fourteenth angel, turn around and use the arrow to hit the crystal switch. Once the flame goes down, fly straight to the angel in the bubble. This is the last angel. Alternatively, the easiest option is to use the bow and arrow to pop the angel's bubble, then use the angel mask to make the angel come directly to Link.

Great Fairy Fountain location

Claiming the reward

After obtaining all 15 fairies, return the strays to the Great Fairy of the Swamp to restore your original form. His waterfall is located in a cave near the Woodfall temple. It is visible from the altar where Link erected the Woodfall Temple and can be reached by flying as Deku Link. In the original N64/Gamecube versions Majora's MaskLink is provided with a (very useless) charged spin attack move. In the 3DS version, he gets a double magic meter.
