Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Developer Sandfall Interactive isn't following fan expectations with their next game. A company official said so in a recent interview, while the upcoming project will benefit Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 In more ways than one.
Released last April Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Turned out to be one of the defining hits of 2025, sweeping multiple award ceremonies and clearing 5 million sales in its first six months on the market. French developer Sandfall Interactive recently confirmed that it has begun early work on its next title.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Dev wants to follow his instincts
In a new interview with Edge magazine, Sandfall co-founder and chief operating officer François Meurice admitted that “there's a little bit of pressure” that the French studio is feeling following the massive success. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. However, he called it “not that important”, stressing that the team is sticking to what they've been doing, taking the time to explore the ideas that excite them. Lead writer Jennifer Swedberg-Yen echoed that view, saying Sandfall will continue to be guided by “our own personal taste”, symbolically calling the developer's “North Star”.
Elaborating on this sentiment, Swedberg-Yen described himself as a “people pleaser” noting that following his own advice may not always be easy as Sandfall has millions of fans and therefore faces significant expectations. Also, she made it clear that she understands the risks of compromising creative direction, seeing as many books, TV shows and other media lose their identity by trying to please everyone. “We have to trust our instincts and continue to believe in the vision behind the studio,” Swedberg-Yen concluded.
Meurisse frames Sandfall's next project as building from a strong starting line with a more experienced and confident team. Both his and Swedberg-Yen's comments are largely consistent with what Sandfall CEO Guillaume Broche recently said about the upcoming project. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 The developer wants to make another “artsy” game. Although not much is known about the project, Sandfall has already indicated that it still wants to make a sequel set in the same universe. As Broche explained, Clair Obscur Planned franchisee name is, and Campaign 33 It was just one of the stories the studio wanted to tell. Exactly what shape future stories will tell and how they relate Campaign 33 It's still up in the air. Based on what Little Sandfall has shared to date, it's possible Clair Obscur Will become an anthology series, not the other way around final fantasyOne of its main motivations.
We need to continue to trust our instincts and believe in the vision behind the studio.
The Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 The developer recently indicated that it doesn't plan to go big anytime soon. While the game's massive success allowed it a level of financial security that made significant expansion possible, co-founder and lead programmer Tom Guillermin sees Sandfall's current team as “just the right size” to make an ambitious turn-based RPG, as much said in an August 2025 interview. Given that plan and facts Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Taking five to six years to develop, Sandfall's next title could follow a similar timeline, potentially releasing around 2030 or 2031, within the next console generation.
As a thank you to fans, Sandfall released a massive free DLC Campaign 33 In December 2025, a new playable area called Verso's Draft, adding a photo mode, additional costumes, new music, and many more challenging boss fights. There is currently no official word on whether more content is planned for the game, or if the studio will now focus entirely on its next project.
