God Laufey is aiming for an early 2027 launch, the leaker claims

PlayStation gave us an extended look at God of War Loafe during the game's State of Play reveal earlier this month, but stopped short of announcing a release window, only teasing that it's “in development.”

However, according to reputed leaker NateTheHate, the game could launch as early as next year.

“The last I heard the goal was the first half [of] 2027,” he said at X. “That might change but that was the hope at one point.”

Likewise, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schrier claimed shortly after the announcement that God of War Lofe was not “years away”, and that fans shouldn't read too much into the lack of a release window.

“Unlike many other big announcements, this one is not *years* away,” he said.

2027 is stacked, but don't expect another GTA 6 delay to shake things up

Of course, since Sony hasn't officially announced a release window, the game could slip past internal targets, so it's worth taking 'early 2027' with a grain of salt.

“Both could possibly be in [the] First half [of] 2027,” NateTheHate said in a follow-up reply to a fan asking whether Toll Dawn 2 or Lord Laufey would launch first. “But the timeline could change, as nothing is set in stone at this stage.”

2027 already looks stacked, with Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Persona 4 Revival, Fable, and Metro 2039 making a pack for February, while the rest of the year also includes Clockwork Revolution, Crazy Taxi: World Tour, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, Wolf27, Wolf27 Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, and the new Witcher 3 expansion.

But now that GTA 6's release date is set in stone, with marketing to begin this summer, the runway is clear for publishers to pencil in their games. “Unless something unexpected and catastrophically goes wrong with GTA 6 in the near future… it will hit November as planned,” assured NateTheHate.

We can only guess when God of War Laufey will launch, but 'early 2027' is much earlier than many expected. The five-year gap reflects the timeline between the last two entries, which makes perfect sense; There's no need to reinvent the wheel when Santa Monica Studios can build on already perfected engines, assets and tech stacks. Always a mishmash of old and new, after all.
