Hinokami Chronicles 2 will launch in 2025

Key takeaways

  • Sega has finally officially announced Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2.

  • The story mode will go from the entertainment district arc to the Hashira training arc.

  • It will also launch with over 40 characters, a significant step up from the 18 released in the first Hinokami Chronicles.

After years of rumors and recent Weekly Jump leaks, Sega has finally officially announced Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2, which will launch in 2025 for PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and Switch.

As anyone who played Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero will know, 2024 was a strong year for anime gaming adaptations, a trend that looks set to continue in 2025 with Bleach: Rebirth of Souls and Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact. That's already an interesting lineup, but there's at least one more anime titan joining the fray.

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero review – and it goes further

Like Request for Shenron, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is pure wish-fulfillment and exactly what fans have spent a decade and a half waiting for.

Last week, a Weekly Jump leak suggested that Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2 was finally going to be announced in 2021 after many rumors since the first game's release. That leak was true, as Sega has officially revealed the game and given more details. In this, including the fact that it will launch at some point in 2025.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is real, starting in 2025

Like the first game, Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2 will be developed by CyberConnect2 and will be released at some point in 2025 on all systems including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Steam, and Nintendo Switch. We don't know the exact time yet, but it was suggested that this weekly jump might be playable at Jump Festa later this month.

As you'd expect, Hinokami Chronicles 2's story mode picks up where the last game left off, with players moving from the Entertainment District and Swordsmith Village arcs to the Hashira Training arc. Since the anime isn't too far off from the Hashira Training arc, it makes sense that the game won't go beyond that.

There's still a fair bit of Demon Slayer to go after the Hashira training arc, so don't be surprised if we eventually see The Hinokami Chronicles 3.

Along with the expanded story mode, Sega confirmed that the game's roster will include over 40 playable characters, which is a big step up from the 18 characters that were included for the launch of the first game and all of which will be carried over to the sequel. Muichiro Tokito and Mitsuri Kanroji are the two new characters confirmed to be playable in the sequel, but it has been confirmed that all nine Hashiras will be on the roster this time around.
