Mario and Luigi: Brotherhood There are dozens of islands to explore and reconnect as you progress through the main story. While none of the islands are huge, there are some collectibles and bonus things to do outside of the main story that can be easily missed on your first time around.
Even when on an island for the first time, you may want to return to a nearby town to buy new gear or simply heal, and all of that is made very easy for quick travel. The iconic pipes make their return inside Mario and Luigi: BrotherhoodAnd here's how they work.

Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood needs to put gameplay first in order to move the series forward
Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood marks the return of a beloved Nintendo franchise, but it also faces the challenge of reviving a series that has been dormant for nearly a decade. As the first new story in the series since the closure of its original developer, AlphaDream, Brotherhood carries the weight of rekindling the magic that made previous Mario and Luigi games so beloved.
How to Fast Travel in Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood
Fast travel is done via green and blue pipes Green pipes lead from one location to another within the islandand Blue pipes to and from other islands. Blue pipes are found near the beginning of where you spawn on the island and on Shipshape Island, and blue pipes can only take you to other starting areas on other islands. The green pipes have set locations they go to, which is usually the island you're already on. The green pipes are on a block at the beginning that needs to be jumped to unlock that location as a fast travel point.
Mario jumps on top of the green pipe and interacts with it Takes you to the default location on that island Interacting with the blue pipe will open a map of all available islands that you can travel back to.
There is no way to fast travel to the next island from the green pipe or when deep in the island, it means you have to make your way to the beginning of the island to leave, but the green pipes make that trip easier. When you first travel to an island, there is no way to fast travel through that island until you reconnect. While you will be able to find green pipes to fast travel within that island, you will be stuck until you are able to finish the story of that island.

Should you return to the previous islands in Mario and Luigi: Brotherhood
While you can try to complete all the content on an island on your first trip, more content will unlock after you leave, giving you more reasons to double back as often as you can.
- Look for the sprite bulb
- connecting the island Opens new routes to the island to reach new places.
- Coming back with new tools lets you overcome previous obstacles.
- Side quests almost always require backtracking to previous islands.
On top of those options, it's always a good idea to go back and level up before taking on a new island because you never want to get stuck on an island that's too hard for your current level.
