An assistant manager should be a jack of all trades. While jujutsu magicians immerse themselves in honing their techniques, assistant managers must study curses along with various professional skills.

  • driver: Assistant managers escort magicians to mission points.
    • Example: Akari drives Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi to several research points while discovering the mystery of the Yasohachi Bridge (Season 1, Episode 22, “The Origin of Blind Obedience”).
  • Recon Agent: Assistant managers gather important information to convey to magicians before each mission.
    • Example: Ijichi informs Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi about the cursed womb of the five prisoners trapped inside the Ishu Detention Center and Block 2 (Season 1, Episode 4, “Curse Womb Must Die”).
  • contact: Assistant managers are the communication link between magicians in the field and jujutsu higher ups. They call for backup when needed and help resolve conflicts between students and staff.

Assistant managers can use cursed energy

However, cursed techniques are not required

Ijichi communicates Shibuya's situation during a phone call to Jujutsu Kaisen.

Assistant managers usually don't have cursing techniques. However, that doesn't mean they can't sense cursed energy. Furthermore, all assistant managers must know basic combat. For example, Akari Nitta cannot use cursed energy. However, she can see cursed souls. Akari is a “window” (a term for non-magicians who can see the curse).

On the other hand, Kiyotaka Ijichi can use curse energy. He uses two barrier techniques that help magicians in their work. The first is a simple barrier technique that uses talismans to hide cursed techniques. Ijichi's second technique is a curtain barrier that hides cursed spirits from the general public.

Another cursed technique that assistant managers can use is shikigami. Akutami mentions this in detail Jujutsu Kaisen: The Official Character GuideChapter 2, page 131.

Wizards can switch to their key management

Ijichi tells Yuji the curse grade before a mission in Jujutsu Kaisen.

How do assistant managers train? Do managers choose their field of study, or do jujutsu top faculty choose it for them? What does an assistant management course look like? Let's take a deeper look.

Assistant managers study with magicians at any of Japan's prefectural jujutsu high schools. Even without much information about a manager's course load, an aspiring manager can estimate the number of classes he or she may take. Studying curses is an essential subject for magicians and sorcerers. Furthermore, if a manager has a cursed technique, they wield it like a sorcerer. Finally, one might assume that administrative training is a unique requirement for managers (According to Akutami, Ijichi's special skill is Excel).

In addition to their coursework, aspiring managers go on field missions to assist wizard students. However, there is no grading system for managers like magicians. Still, like any job, the most skilled managers are assigned to high-priority tasks and take leadership positions among Jujutsu High's management teams. (This is why Ijichi is always in demand.)

There are two paths one can take to become a management student at Jujutsu High. New students can choose management studies on their admissions application (Akari took this route). On the other hand, a wizard student may decide to pursue management instead, essentially switching majors. For example, Ijichi began his academic career as a sorcerer student but decided that he was too practical and high-powered to take on such a stressful profession.
