Legendary wildlife documentarian, storyteller, presenter, and historian, Sir David Attenborough, turns 100 this week. Birthday wishes for the icon have flooded social media, with some joking that now that Attenborough has hit three figures, he can no longer play with Lego. The presenter is a big enough deal that Lego has officially lifted its age restrictions.
Lego is for everyone from four to 99 years old
For those a little lost on this point, certain Lego packaging notes that its sets are for people ages four to 99. Lego isn't for everyone, not just kids, and printing 4+ on the box is a fun way to make it clear. The thing is, 4-99 is more of a playful slogan than a hard and fast rule, every time a famous person turns 100, people joke that they're not allowed to play with Lego.

The PlayStation could follow in Nintendo's footsteps and turn its original console into a Lego set.
We're potentially getting a PS1 Lego set in time for Christmas.
It happened when Dick van Dijk celebrated his 100th birthday earlier this year, and it happened again with Sir David on Friday. However, Lego has honored Attenborough in a way that it didn't honor Van Dyck, although the actor may benefit from the changes now in place. Taking to its Instagram page, Lego has officially changed the age limit so that Attenborough can continue to play with Lego, unencumbered by the fear that the Lego Police might show up at his door and take him away in a cart.
David Attenborough, and anyone else who's 100, can play with Lego.
“Happy 100th birthday, Sir David Attenborough. There's no age limit for those who don't stop playing,” Lego wrote on Instagram Friday, captioning a photo of a brick tub with a changed age range on the side. Before anyone makes any wisecracks about having to do the same when Attenborough turns 101 this time next year, the recommended age range now reads “4 -100+”, so it really covers everyone.
Unless you're three and under, of course, Lego pieces are too small and you should play with Duplo instead.
It's unclear whether Attenborough enjoys building quirky Lego sets. He is one of the few people still alive when Lego was founded in 1932. If not, but want to get started, I recommend this Majestic Rhino with Birds set (make sure to say it in his voice). Then again, he probably sees enough beasts at work, so just wait for the new Forza Horizon 6 sets to be released this summer. I'm sure he'll love them.
