Love and the Deepspace community have been everywhere lately. The announcement of a new love interest, Valko, was met with mixed reactions. That's because some players, especially those on the CN server, hated his design and features. Others were disappointed to see the addition of a new love interest while the rest of the content is lacking.
However, no one expected Infold's reaction to this reaction to dismiss Valco completely. Although full character designs, cinematics, and voice acting are set to go in many areas, Infold revealed yesterday that Valko will no longer appear in Love and Deepspace, and that there will be no other love interests in the future.
Now, angry fans are fighting back. Some are contacting Infold directly and calling for Valco to resume development. We're also seeing petitions popped up on various websites that have been most successful, gathering over 160,000 signatures and counting.
Love and Deepspace fans are fighting to save Valko after he was unceremoniously dismissed
“Bring Back Walko as a Love Interest” on iPetition is the most successful online petition to date. At the time of writing, it has 161,795 signatures and is aiming for 250,000. There's another on Change.org, sitting at 72,131 verified signatures.
“Absolutely appalling that Infold canceled this when there was always meant to be another love interest,” says one supporter on the Change.org petition. “How will the sport grow and survive if it remains stagnant?”
“I think it's really unfair that Infold canceled Valco after listening to toxic fans who didn't even give him a chance,” says another. “Even if he wasn't 'their type' or 'their main,' they could ignore him while other fans loved him.
The campaign has garnered so much attention that people outside the fandom are starting to take notice, with Change.org noting how quickly fans have mobilized.
For now, fans will hope it's not too late for Infold to back down on the decision. Perhaps, if it could pull the plug on a character who was close to release, it could quickly U-turn and reintroduce him to the game? With that being said, we don't really know what's going on behind the scenes, and there are various theories as to why this was done in the first place. As of the time of writing, however, Valko is no more.
