Monster Hunter Wilds continues its long road to redemption. After what could only be described as a disastrous launch, marred by bugs, performance issues, and stalling sales at Summer Game Fest last month, Capcom revealed the game's first major expansion.
Like Iceborne and Sunbreak before it, Ascendance is set for release in 2027, promising new monsters including fan-favorite elder dragon Lao-Shan Lung and nuisance Kushala Daora, as well as new quests and a new area.
Ahead of that launch, however, Capcom has promised to “streamline” Wilds' available offerings. It's doing this by removing three bundles and adding three more, which doesn't look very neat. Along with this, the game is set to receive its first permanent price cut.
Monster Hunter Wilds is losing three versions, gaining three more, and dropping in price
“Hunters, we're streamlining the options available to new and returning hunters joining Monster Hunter Wilds,” reads a new post on social media. “We plan to discontinue the sale of some of our existing bundled products and launch new value bundled products. These changes will take effect from Aug 3, 5pm PT/Aug 4, 1am BST.”
The bundles that Capcom is discontinuing are Monster Hunter Wilds Deluxe Edition, Premium Deluxe Edition, and the Cosmetic DLC Pass. These will be replaced by three new bundles:
- Monster Hunter Wilds Gold Edition: Includes the base game plus the Monster Hunter Wilds cosmetic DLC collection.
- Monster Hunter Wilds Cosmetic DLC Collection: Includes a bundle of 10 DLC packs (including the Monster Hunter Wilds Extra Cosmetic DLC Pack).
- Monster Hunter Wilds Extra Cosmetic DLC Pack: Includes select paid cosmetic DLC previously only available as standalone products.
Depending on the pricing and how much you care, this can prove to be a good value, with some cosmetic packs costing as little as $24.99.
Both the Gold Edition and the Cosmetic DLC Collection will include the Deluxe Pack, Cosmetic DLC Packs 1-4, Blossomdance DLC Pack, Flamefeet DLC Pack, Dreamspell DLC Pack, Lumenhymn DLC Pack, Extras Cosmetic DLC Pack, and Premium Bonuses. The Extras Cosmetic DLC pack will only include the last two.
It all seems a bit confusing for something that is supposed to “streamline” options for consumers.
Capcom is hoping that, the upcoming Ascendance DLC, and the semiregular updates it will roll out, will cement Monster Hunter Wilds' turnaround. Reception for the game is improving, sitting at a “mostly positive” 70 percent on Steam; However, it pales in comparison to the previous two major entries in the series.
