How to Complete Damp Proof on Mouse: PI for Rent

Main objectives

  • Find and explore Hilltop Mansion.

  • Collect three cheeses for an old cheese lager and track down John's recipe for the Perfect Bog Fondue.

Damp Evidence Walkthrough (all remote wetlands collectibles)

Damp Evidence has 13 collectibles, including newspapers, comic books, baseball cards, plans, figurines, and alternate clues. The list below shows a complete breakdown.

Investigate dilapidated homes

Newspaper

Climb the stairs at the beginning of the level and enter the room above. There is a newspaper on the corner chair. Grab it and then go through the kitchen and basement.

Squeeze the police

Shoot the crooked cop as soon as you leave the basement and then talk to him.

Search the swamp for clues

Follow the main path to reach the entrance to the mines. Look in the shack just ahead of the mine to find an alternate clue pinned to the wall.

Now enter the mines, drop off the ledge, and flip the switch to your left. Continue forward to exit the mines.

Baseball card

Once you're out of the mines, enter the bag in front of you and immediately look left. There is a baseball card sitting on the distillery equipment in the corner. Grab it and talk to the Old Cheeselager to progress the Perfect Bog Fondue. For more on that side mission, check out our Three Things location guide.

Find your way to Hilltop Mansion (Part 1).

Planned

Make your way down the hillside and enter the first building on your right. A schematic is pinned to the wall behind the shelf with the bottles.

Thing number 1

Continue through the area to enter the second mine section. As soon as you enter, go down and down the path to the left. Move it forward to run into the first thing.

Continue working through the mines, using the tail-a-chopa to cross larger gaps as needed. Fall into the pit and swim to the ground shed.

Pull levers to unlock warp-pipes, study the art of plumbing, and travel through warp-pipes.

Flip the switch inside the shed and read the book on the shelf to learn about warp-pipes. Now interact with the warp-pipe to teleport to a new area.

Find your way to Hilltop Mansion (Part 2).

In the basement, turn on your flashlight and use the white wire on the ground to find the switch that turns on the power. Now follow the wire out of the basement and continue along the path to reach the elevator. Flip the switch to catch a ride.

Explore the mansion

Thing number 2

Inside the mansion, follow the main path and tailpick the door. Continue forward to reach the dining room, and look right to find a second cheese sitting on top of a stack of cheese wheels. Grab it and then destroy the “totally normal wall” in the dining room.

Continue through the mansion to enter a room with a desk and Foyer Key. don't do Still hold the key. First, use the lockers on the right side of the room to reach the vent that leads to the statue. Return to the foyer key and collect it after getting the statue.

Defeat the Mad Cultist

With the key in hand, follow the main path to open the door. Defeat the Mad Cultist in the room beyond that door.

Discover the base of Cheeselegger

Newspaper

After defeating the Mad Cultist, head outside and immediately go left. Follow the wooden deck to reach a bench with a newspaper.

Continue forward down the slope. At the bottom of the slope is a shack, and inside is an alternate sign.

Thing number 3

Continue into the swamp area and get on top of the wrecked ship in the center. The third thing is under a bent pallet in the ship's smoke stacks.

Now use the grapple tail points to reach an elevated platform that gives you schematic access to the tree attached.

Go to the boss before he croaks and question the cheeselager boss

Alternative clues

At the far end of the swamp, tailpick the door to the building on your right and enter. Inside, check the crate at the bottom of the stairs to your right to find an alternate clue.

Now go to the top floor of the building and use the warp-pipe to access the area with the baseball card.

Planned

Leave the building and take a right as soon as you are outside. Move forward a few paces and look right to find a safe against the wall, which has a blueprint. Collect it and then follow the main path to reach the Cheeselegger Boss.

Reach the pier and escape

The perfect bog fondue recipe

Escape from the Cheezlager base. When you exit the last building, you can go left to get to the pier and escape. Before you do, go right and talk to the old cheeselager in the alcove to your right to exchange three things for the perfect bog fondue recipe.

Check the crate directly by the old cheeselager to find a comic book and then go to the wharf.

Finish the job and find the remains of the crooked cop

Stop the MiceMcGuffin MacLeod and take the note from his airboat. Then use that vessel to leave the distant wetlands.

Find Stilton and pin your remote wetlands clues

Baseball card

Drive back to the PI office area and stop by Soup to Nuts to buy a baseball card. Then talk to Stilton at Little & Big and go to Pepper's office and pin the clues on the crime wall to complete the damp proof.
