Only a few years ago, this was the term “friendslop” was created, and since then we've seen hundreds of fun and hilarious co-op games explode into the gaming world. What makes this wave of multiplayer action even more impressive is that it's being driven by independent developers outside of the AAA space.
With very little experience and almost no budget, these creators are showing that it doesn't have to cost millions of dollars to have fun, and instead share the experience with others. It doesn't matter if you're into horror, sports, strategy, or something else entirely; There's bound to be a friendslop game that can bring a lot of laughs to almost any friend group.
Super Battle Golf
Chaos in competition
-
Turns golf into a fast-paced party game.
-
Prefers laughter over realism.
Super Battle Golf A slow and calculated game turns into a rush to the finish, providing you and the rest of the players with an array of different items designed simply to wreak as much havoc as possible. You may find yourself in the lead at one point, only for your friend to arrive with a golf cart to ruin your day, removing all stress and replacing it with pure fun.
I think a big reason the game has gained so much traction is the low barrier to entry. It doesn't matter if your friend group consists of die-hard FPS fans or diehard RPG lovers; There is joy for all and a little glory for those who come out on top.
Airport security sucks!
Daily frustrations made funny
-
Airport disasters pose multiple challenges.
-
Two very different teams and styles.
Airport security sucks! It delivers exactly what it says on the tin. You're split into two teams, one protecting the airport and the other trying to disrupt it with everything from explosives to contraband. You need to work together to come up with increasingly creative ideas on both sides of the battle.
Over time, I found that each team offered new and inventive ways to attack and counterattack. There are so many extra tools and weapons that the simple act of going through security becomes an absolute battlefield. Now with tons of extra maps and objectives to complete, the complete package shows it has enough fun-factor to compete with games boasting 100 times the budget and scale.
Roadside research
Not your average shoppers
-
Satisfying shop simulation.
-
Wrapped in a fun extraterrestrial theme.
Simulation games have become a real force in the gaming market, and Roadside research Adds another layer to distinguish yourself from the crowd. Playing as a ragtag group of lovable aliens, your objective is to run the gas station undetected, as one wrong move can turn the entire group into a pile of green goo.
Where normally you'd be happily stocking the shelves and minding your own business, there's now a whole other element of danger that never goes away. Early Access updates are rolling out in full force, so as great as the game is right now, it's only going to get better from here.
Hold your king
Royalty demands royal treatment
-
Physics based co-op platformer.
-
Very little margin for error.
Hold your king Co-op Rage is another in a long line of games that push strong friendships to their limits. Carrying a ragdolling king, you need to navigate a series of obstacles horizontally and vertically, carefully balancing from both ends, placing royalty on a stretcher.
One misstep from the front or a trip from behind, and suddenly, a good chunk of progress can be reset, and the blame game only gets worse from there. It's not as punishing as other rage games, which makes it more cold and silly, but there will still be moments where relationships are put to the test.
Huddle around
Everyone should be snapped up
-
Casual photography game with light progression.
-
Relaxed and shared fun.
Huddle around Eliminates all the stress and intensity that comes with traditional zookeepers, and instead opts for relaxation and calm. It's all about taking great pictures of birds and slowly filling your book, grabbing some cute hats and outfits to make your silly characters even more lovable.
This type of multiplayer game brings with it a more social aspect, where friends and families can come together to talk and laugh without the constant need for input. It's very clear that the game was made with a lot of love, from the whimsical visuals to the original concept at its heart, and you feel that affection the second you step into nature.
Burglin' Gnomes
Stupidity right out of the gate
-
Increasing robbery operations.
-
Intentionally over the top.
Burglin' Gnomes is the perfect combination of fantasy and tomfoolery, throwing you into an array of bizarre scenarios where you need to steal, hide and complete tasks to please a high-gnome. No mission is ever going to be a walk in the park. While you may be small and nimble, there are still ways that work can go south very quickly.
After a few minutes, you'll be crying on the floor and laughing at the sheer chaos that could have happened on purpose or completely by accident. There's actually a pretty good progression loop that sees you upgrade your house over time to make missions easier, giving it even more replay value than it already has.
The Crashout Crew
Disaster is guaranteed
-
Actions full of physics.
-
Progressively more insane demands.
Manufacturers of peak Did it again. this time, The Crashout Crew It's about helping fulfill orders in the most chaotic warehouse imaginable. Time is of the essence, and it doesn't matter if you're picking up boxes or chickens; Every second counts, and teamwork is the only way to reach the deadline.
The real fun starts later when the orders become more complicated, with additional obstacles that cover each map and result in the majority of the team failing. It's all about talking and composing, and if you can nail the basics, then I promise you'll be rewarded with dozens of hours of fun.
YapYap
Words are power
-
Uses voice commands for spellcasting.
-
Hilarious thanks to its spooky setting.
YapYap Takes inspiration from other co-op horror games but brings with it a very magical twist. Using your voice as a means of casting spells, your group must traverse imaginary dungeons full of treasure and monsters, sending tornadoes and fireballs and teleporting everywhere but words.
I was surprised at how well the voice recognition works, and once you get used to the spells and pronunciations, you really start to feel like a true wizard. If you are tired like games REPO and Deadly CompanyAfter that YapYap The best replacement is, which I would argue is better than both of them.
