Shuntaro Furukawa said the plans for Nintendo's next console will be revealed in the current fiscal year.

That means nothing has changed, and we'll get our first look at Nintendo's future by March 31, 2025.
Nintendo published its latest numbers this morning and naturally some thought its anticipation that its quarterly earnings call might contain news about the Switch's successor. Technically it did, but only because Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa took the opportunity to let the world know that nothing has changed when it comes to the studio's plans for its Switch 2 reveal.
Furukawa means the Switch 2, or whatever Nintendo names its new console, is on track to be revealed by the end of the current fiscal year, so March 31, 2025. Furukawa noted back in May, so before two earnings calls, that Nintendo would reveal its next console before the end of the fiscal year. Nothing has changed in the six months since then, which means we're still getting our first look at the console in the first quarter of 2025.

Nintendo Switch 2 is the worst kept secret in video game history
It's only a matter of time until the console breaks cover.
Well, technically we might hear something official about the Switch 2 sooner than that. Furukawa continues to be purposefully vague about the Switch 2 and there could be a reveal with hours to go before the end of the fiscal year on March 31, or it could mean an unannounced trailer for the new console drops on social media this afternoon. It could really go either way, or anywhere in between, and this being Nintendo we're talking about, nothing surprises me.
Nintendo still plans to reveal its next console until March 2025
So anytime between now and 31 March 11:59 hrs
That said, it feels less and less likely that a Switch 2 announcement will come in 2024 with each passing day. Nintendo still wants as many people to buy Switches as possible over the Christmas period. Confirmation of when its successor will replace it in early 2025 may mean some stop and wait for what's coming next from Nintendo.
While the Switch continues to sell (today's numbers reveal Nintendo sold 2.62 million units in the last quarter, bringing its lifetime sales to 146.04 million), things seem to be slowing down. So much so that on a call this morning, Nintendo confirmed that its estimated total for the Switch sold in the current fiscal year has dropped from 13.5 million units to 12.5 million. It also cut its estimated revenue for the year by ten percent.
It's a strange situation all around because on the one hand Nintendo hasn't officially revealed anything about its next console, but on the other hand, this is the second time its president has acknowledged its existence despite not having an official reveal. Rumors have been swirling for months at this point and we may even get to know some of the first games to be released on the Switch 2. It looks like titles like Pokemon Legends ZA and Metroid Prime 4 Beyond will be on the Switch 2, and the trailer. For Yooka-Replaylee clearly indicated that it will be playable on another Nintendo console.
