a piece The manga by Eiichiro Oda debuted in Weekly Shōnen Jump issue #34 of July 19, 1997. Strong, both currently covering the Elbaf arc of the story.

After a long hiatus, the One Piece anime finally returned on April 5, 2026 with episode 1156. Now, on June 28, 2026, the anime just released episode 1168, titled. “Ancient History – Harley Passes Down by Elbaf.” In this episode, the anime made a shocking revelation about one of the main antagonists featured in this arc – Shanks' older twin brother Shamrock Figerland. To bid Loki farewell, Shamrock draws his sword to attack him, and in the process, performs a new legendary John Devil Fall with the infernal power of Cerberus. The name of this fruit is assumed to be Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Cerberus, and it allows its user, in this case, the sword of Shamrock, to transform into Cerberus, the three-pronged guardian of Hell. This fruit was revealed in the manga in chapter 1138, which was released in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump issue #10 on February 3, 2025. It was definitely exciting to see its color scheme finally unveiled today via anime.

The Shamrock Devil Fruit Sword holds the power of the Gatekeeper of Hell

Cerberus power is a devil fruit straight from hell. Oda's inspiration for this fruit is apparently from Greek mythology and the creature known as Cerberus. Cerberus is a three-headed dog who in mythology serves as the gatekeeper of the underworld, working under Hades, the god of the dead. In Greek mythology the underworld is not an exact hell, and rather a place for the souls of the dead, but the two terms are definitely conflated.

In any case, Cerberus, the sword wielded by Shamrock, having these powers, is not a simple coincidence. It's clever storytelling from Eiichiro Oda, who made the quintessential holy knight the gatekeeper of Marijuana. Marijoa itself is a place that Sabo directly compares to hell. It was mentioned in a piece Chapter 1085, which dropped on June 5, 2023, in issue #17. In the anime, it was episode 1119 from September 15, 2024.

“I was hoping I'd be able to take you out in one move. After all, there was no way Hell on top of the world could have known it existed here.” — Sabo calls Marijoa hell in One Piece chapter 1085

The future role of Shamrock and Cerberus in one piece

Shamrock cerberus vs shanks gryphon one piece

Shamrock, having the power of a literal gatekeeper of the underworld, certainly sets up an exciting role for the future of One Piece. He is Shanks' twin brother and the two are finally going to face off in the final saga of One Piece. Shamrock is going to be a bulwark against anyone trying to undermine the authority of the World Government and wielding the power of Akuma no Me – Saint Imu Nerona, the main demon.

The Cerberus sword has yet to show its full potential, but it will eventually clash with Shanks' own sword, the Gryphon. Gryphon has also long been believed to be a Devil Fruit sword, and this battle could pit the two Guardians against each other in the final saga. While Cerberus guards the underworld and the god of death, the Gryphon guards treasure and is an ally of the sun god Apollo. This reflects the loyalties of Emu, the Devil God and Deathbringer Shamrock, while Shanks will side with Luffy, the reincarnation of Nick, the Sun God of One Piece.
