PlayStation is taking things to the next level with upcoming deals

PlayStation Users looking to grab some PS4 or PS5 games at a discount will soon be in luck, as Sony has teased a next-level savings program for the PlayStation Store. However, the upcoming PlayStation Games sale event won't start until mid-May, so fans will have to wait a while to see which titles will be discounted.

As the central digital storefront for Sony's consoles, the PlayStation Store first appeared in the era of the PlayStation 3 and PSP consoles. Since the arrival of the PS4 and PS5, the PlayStation Store has been integrated into the PlayStation operating system as a basic feature rather than a separate app. The PlayStation Store may yet make further changes to its user interface, as rumors suggest that horizontal playing cards with short descriptions and tags may be added to the experience.

Sony's Next Level Savings campaign begins on May 13

Soon, PlayStation fans will have the chance to add some games to their digital collection at a discount. According to a banner posted on the PlayStation Store's deals page, the Next Level Savings program begins on Wednesday, May 13. The event banner first appeared on the Deals tab before it was suddenly removed for 12 hours. Past PlayStation sales have typically occurred during major holidays or seasons, although the discounted games and their prices often vary with each event. However, it's unclear which games will be discounted in the Next Level Savings program or how long the sale will last. In the meantime, potential buyers can bookmark the PlayStation Store's deals page ahead of the sale.

However, it's possible that not everyone will see the same deals in PlayStation's Next Level savings program. Starting in late 2025, PlayStation has dynamic pricing for AAA games on the PlayStation Store, titles such as Kingdom Come: Redemption 2, Astro Botand God of War: Ragnarok Discounts are offered for certain users. However, the random nature of dynamic pricing has drawn criticism from PlayStation fans, with some calling it a predatory practice in design. However, it is not yet clear whether dynamic pricing will be used for the Next Level savings program or whether Sony will go with traditional discounts.

The latest round of PS5 price hikes was due to global market conditions brought on by the ongoing DRAM shortage crisis. The crisis seems to have affected the development of the PlayStation 6 console. According to Sony president and CEO Hiroko Totoki's statement during an earnings call, the PS6's price and release window have not yet been decided, although the company is exploring possible ways to sell it.
