As the central digital storefront for Sony's consoles, the PlayStation Store first appeared in the era of the PlayStation 3 and PSP consoles. Soon, PlayStation fans will have the chance to add some games to their digital collection at a discount. According to a banner posted on the PlayStation Store's deals page, the Next Level Savings program begins on Wednesday, May 13. The event banner first appeared on the Deals tab before it was suddenly removed for 12 hours. Past PlayStation sales have typically occurred during major holidays or seasons, although the discounted games and their prices often vary with each event. However, it's unclear which games will be discounted in the Next Level Savings program or how long the sale will last. In the meantime, potential buyers can bookmark the PlayStation Store's deals page ahead of the sale.

However, it's possible that not everyone will see the same deals in PlayStation's Next Level savings program. Starting in late 2025, PlayStation has dynamic pricing for AAA games on the PlayStation Store, titles such as Kingdom Come: Redemption 2, Astro Botand God of War: Ragnarok Discounts are offered for certain users. However, the random nature of dynamic pricing has drawn criticism from PlayStation fans, with some calling it a predatory practice in design. However, it is not yet clear whether dynamic pricing will be used for the Next Level savings program or whether Sony will go with traditional discounts.
Another level saving event arrives at an odd time
The Next Level Savings Store event will arrive in the middle of a difficult time for PlayStation and its fans. Throughout April, Sony raised the prices of the PS5 console lineup in several regions. The US, UK, Europe and Japan saw PS5 prices rise in early April, followed by South Korea and Southeast Asia a few weeks later. The latest round of PS5 price hikes was due to global market conditions brought on by the ongoing DRAM shortage crisis. The crisis seems to have affected the development of the PlayStation 6 console.
