Pokemon Champions makes my favorite Gen 9 Pokemon better without its Mega Evolution

Pokemon Champions' Mega Glimora is less impressive than it sounds

In terms of design, I guess Pokemon Legends: ZAMega Glimora is fantastic for many reasons.

It acts as a counterpart of sorts to Mega Float and Pokemon Legends: ZAFlower theme.
It may represent the Ultimate Weapon in Pokémon form, given its cannon-like appearance.
It builds on the original design with new features without destroying its identity.
It retains its rock/poison type combination, which makes it interesting.

So, as far as Mega Glimora's appearance is concerned, I think it's top-notch. A problem arises when considering its capacity and data distribution.

Mega Glimora's ability is adaptive, meaning it deals 2x damage instead of 1.5x with its STAB moves, which are Rock and Poison.
Adaptability makes Glimora very strong in terms of damage output, which makes its stats stronger.

- Defense goes from 90 to 105
- Special Attack goes from 130 to 150

Giving Mega Glimmora a 35-point increase in attack instead of giving it a bit more defense is far from ideal, as Mega Evolution requires Glimmora to hold Glimmoranite, meaning it has to forgo base-enhancing items like Focus Sash, Shuca Berry, Rocky Helmet, or Assault Vest. With a 4x weakness to ground-type Pokemon, a small bump in defense, and an aggressive ability, Mega Glimora is extremely weak.
While 101 speed is good against Charizard and some other threats, Mega Glimmora isn't fast enough for the speed of Garchomp, one of its biggest counters, and it's outspeeded by most Pokemon that can OHKO it with ground moves. One of the best strategies with base Glimmora is to use a Power Herb and fire a Meteor Beam in one turn, which boosts Glimmora's special attack by one step, making it easier to invest in bulk instead.
Mega Glimora loses Toxic Debris, essentially playing very differently from its base form, but the cost for it can be very high – a placed item that isn't defensive and a Mega Evolution slot on a team that might have better options.

Why Glimmora is better than Mega Glimmora

The bottom line is that Mega Glimora is very hard to justify using in its base form, as it can also achieve some high offensive peaks, but without sacrificing its survivability and lasting power. On top of that, Glimmora can provide some great utility with toxic debris, as well as chip damage with a spiky shield against physical attackers. Instead, Mega Glimora wants to eliminate them as quickly as possible, which changes the entire philosophy of Pokémon. Seeing how much I used Glimmora in Gen 9, and seeing how much I like it as a Pokemon, I couldn't be more disappointed with how its Mega Evolution was handled.

I'm not saying it's impossible to have success with Mega Glimora, but so far, I don't think it's worth using.
