I know we're all excited for Silent Hill 2, but make room for mouthwash this Halloween

It's hard to imagine horror on par with Silent Hill 2, but Mouthwashing pulls it off, and that's why you should make room for it.

This is an impressive feat, especially considering how the original Silent Hill 2 performed. Contrary to popular belief, it was not a runaway success. It took a month to reach one million sales (the final number has not yet been released), and Pyramid head producer Masahiro Ito said that the disappointing start led to a smaller budget and development time for Silent Hill 3 than was originally envisioned. An “arcade spin-off / rail shooter.”

“Silent Hill 2 took a long time [sic] To be somewhat popular,” Ito tweeted in 2019. “A lot of people like Pyramid Head but most of them don't know SH2.”

How does the remake shape up to the rest of the series?

From the sales figures we have, we know that the original Silent Hill sold at least two million copies. The Silent Hill 2 remake came halfway to making the same success in less than a week.

Silent Hill 3 performed significantly worse than its predecessors. The final numbers are probably higher, but it only sold 300,000 copies in the first six months. We don't know how well Silent Hill 4: The Room sold, but it was the number one best-selling game on the Japanese charts in June, 2004. However, this is not as impressive as it sounds, as it only sold out. 41,000 units to earn that spot (as reported by GamesIndustry.biz).

Konami revealed in 2018 that the entire series had sold just over 9 million units since 1999. By comparison, Resident Evil sold 160 million units. The Silent Hill 2 remake already accounts for 10 percent of all Silent Hill sales. Really puts it into perspective, eh?
