Wolverine is one of Marvel's oldest and most famous characters. He's the best at what he does, even if he's not the best at what he does. With such a strong and storied past, it's inevitable that Wolverine's family tree runs deep in blood and tears, and there's a lot for new and old readers to learn about Wolverine's messed-up family.

Dog Logan is Wolverine's secret half-brother, and his first rival

Wolverine can't really catch a break, and dog Logan is one of the many thorns in his attitude-infused side. Dog Logan is Wolverine's secret half-brother, as they share the same father, Thomas Logan, groundskeeper at the Howlett estate. While their shared blood may not have been their priority of focus, their once-shared friendship over the centuries was until it turned to blood.

The Howlett estate was set on fire by an enraged Thomas Logan, and Wolverine, as a young boy, killed the man in a fit of rage and left dog Logan with both mental and physical scars. A century later, dog Logan will be tasked with hunting down his half-brother to prove who is the best Logan, and it shows just how messed up Logan's family tree really is.

Sabretooth is not Wolverine's brother, but he treats him like one (in a way).

Sabretooth's hatred of Wolverine goes deeper than blood

Sabretooth and Wolverine are not brothers, and this has long been a common misconception with the characters. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) hit theaters. In the 20th Century Fox Marvel film, these two are literally flesh and blood brothers. However, their relationship with Marvel Comics is more complicated, since Wolverine allegedly killed Sabretooth's brother over a century ago.

Sabretooth hunts Wolverine every year to make his life a literal living hell. Sabretooth's birthday tradition involves killing Wolverine's lover, or mutilating anyone who comes near him, and ends with a bloody brawl that will take weeks to recover from. Although not siblings, their relationship runs deeper than any family tree.

Wolverine isn't the first Logan to fight Thor

Folkbern Logan is one of the ancestors of Wolverine, who was a guard back in London, England during the 11th century. Falkburn's appearance in the comics is very brief, and he only appears in a few pages. Strange Avengers #6 (April, 2013), but he is definitely Wolverine's ancestor.

In 1013 AD, Folkbern was a pagan who did not believe in any gods. That is, until the Horsemen of the Apocalypse arrived. Falkburn prayed for a guardian, and it was the mighty Thor, God of Thunder, who answered. The other guards witnessed Thor's power, and only one replied, “Folkbern Logan… you are great at what you choose to do. But what you do is not very kind.“Which is a direct reference to Wolverine's self-reference”I am the best at what I do…“

Wolverine's family tree includes clones and unknowns

Clones, natural-born sons, and even unknown mongrels make up Wolverine's legacy as a father.

Wolverine has lived for centuries, and he's fallen in love countless times. While tragedy always seems to strike Logan, he still manages to father children who have inherited his mutant genes. Even without normal conception through birth, Logan is still the father of a handful of clones that are notable:

In fact, the last names on the list we're shown (Gunhawk, Saw Fist, Cannon Foot, Shadowstalker, and Fireknives) are part of the Mongrels, a group of illegitimate children that Logan unwittingly fathered over the centuries, each manipulated to hate the father they never knew was their life's purpose. hell Wolverine also kills them in battle, showing once again that his family tree is oh, so messy.

Romulus is Wolverine's (potential) oldest ancestor

For whatever reason, everyone with Wolverine blood in their veins seems to hate him. Romulus is another one of these characters, and his identity adds more complexity and mystery to Wolverine's canon, as Romulus claims many things, many of which have been debunked.

Romulus is clearly related to Wolverine in some way, as they have many physical similarities, and in their mutant powers. Romulus claims to be a Lupine, a tribe of wild humans evolved from wolves, showing how far he takes the Wolverine gimmick. Romulus plans to intervene in Wolverine's life from behind the scenes, much like Sabretooth does, albeit with a background that goes beyond ancient Rome. Whether or not Romulus is actually Wolverine's founding ancestor is anyone's guess, but he makes a good case, even if he is a compulsive liar and villain.
