Solo leveling is finally getting a real final arc after 8 years with 'Solo Leveling: Karma'.
In South Korea, Solo Leveling has been the most popular web novel and manhwa for quite some time. The story of Solo Leveling was first released in 2016, and its novelization became so popular that it was eventually adapted into a manhwa in 2018. This new manhwa adaptation globalized solo leveling and established a distinct fanbase for it around the world. In 2024, the franchise finally went on to receive its long-awaited TV anime adaptation that would bring the IP global fame.
2026 might seem like a pretty low year for solo leveling so far, especially since it's now confirmed that we won't be getting any new animated content until 2027. Manhwa for Solo Leveling: Ragnarok is also currently on hiatus, with no confirmed return date. But there are still things to look forward to. Solo leveling Karma is officially coming this year, and this new video game from Netmarble Studio is set to be a hit.
When the game was first revealed in November 2025, we were given a glimpse of what was to come. We also knew that the game would cover the 27-year-old King of War. Recently, on July 5, 2026, Solo Leveling Karma went on to host a stage event at Anime Expo 2026, America's largest anime event. At this stage, we will get to learn a lot about the upcoming game through the Q&A program. Thanks to information officially confirmed in the show, we know that Solo Leveling Karma is canon in the original story, as it is confirmed to have direct involvement from Chugong himself. With that in mind, the 27-year-old Monarch War is set to serve as the true final arc of the story that Chugong left off when he finished his story epilogue in 2018 after Chugong defeated his last enemy, Antares, 8 years ago.
What is going to be the new final arc of solo leveling
Fans of Solo Leveling who have read the web novel, or manhwa, are well aware of the story's entire concept surrounding the 27-year-old Emperor War. The 27 Year Emperor War is first revealed at the end of the story, during the epilogue that occurs after the final fight against Antares, which was revealed in Solo Leveling Manhwa Chapter 177. In this chapter, Jinwoo makes a final request to the rulers. In order to undo some of the mistakes they made and save lives, Jinwoo asks them to use the Cup of Reincarnation. The Cup of Rebirth allows him to undo everything he's ever done and return to his teenage years. From there, with his own memories intact, he goes through a gruesome challenge from the beginning, ensuring that everyone who dies will live this time.
The epilogue to solo leveling then comes in two chapters, officially addressed in chapters 178 and 179. In these two chapters, we glimpse the 27-year-old King War. Jinwu is specifically mentioned as fighting Yogmunt, the king of change, before the author again faces off against the ultimate enemy, Antares.
“This empty world that has nothing but eternal darkness feels extremely lonely if there is no fight. I have won my battle against the Kings, and killed the King of Transformation at the center of everything. And so…it has been 27 years since I entered the dimensional rift. It seems that the long and terrible battle is about to end soon. Meeting the Emperor and his direct soldiers again, 2 years later, I wonder what happened to Jina even more. Have to wait? – Sung Jinwoo's inner monologue in solo leveling chapter 178
To no one's surprise, Jinwoo is up to the task and wins this battle again, this time even if he has to take it all alone, and some of his shadows are now gone. Jinwoo still receives all of these in the dimensional crack, which he entered alone. There, he spent 27 years alone and managed to achieve great things. Time flows differently in the rift, so in the real world, only two years pass. Jinwoo is only able to return to the real world after the war ends. Upon his return, Jinwoo marries Cha Hae-in, tries to lead a normal life, and finally settles down after years of loneliness that came with saving the entire world.
While this epilogue was fantastic, it was too short and only skimmed over minor details of the story, such as Jinwu's two final battles against Yogumunt and Antares. Everything else is left to interpretation. 27 years is a long time, and we are all curious to know how Jinwu reached his peak, and how he killed each king. We are also curious to see how the Kings, with their preparation time and knowledge, acted differently this time. All of this is finally set to be explored in a new arc of solo leveling Karn, which is officially expanding into an entire war under the direction of Chugong himself.
