If Pidgeot taught us anything, it's that flying-type Pokemon are usually stuck with boring secondary types, but luckily, Pokemon Legends: ZA brings back some powerful options from across the series. The base game gave us a solid group of flying-type Pokemon to enjoy, but those with Mega Evolutions became more valuable once the Mega Dimension DLC dropped.
Rogue Mega Pokemon directs the meta game to the mega dimension, as your best way to defeat these rampaging rogue Pokemon is to fight fire with fire. You'll benefit from flying-type Pokemon that can Mega Evolve and deal massive damage to the Rogue Mega Pokemon owners you encounter on your journey through Hyperspace Lumiose.
Flying-type Pokémon from the base game are included, but references to the Mega Dimension DLC heavily influence the new placements.

Flamigo might be one of the weirdest Pokemon ever created. After all, it's basically just a flamingo that can't spell, but a closer look at its stats tells a different story. This Pokemon's attack stat stands as the clear leader of its base stat total (BST), and its secondary fighting typing means it can take advantage of a wide variety of coverage moves.

Who comes up with these development needs?
Fortunately, the weaknesses of fighting and flying don't overlap due to a quadruple weakness, but you won't get much defensive resistance from the combination. Flamigo might be higher on this list if it had access to the same abilities as in the main series games, but it still serves as a good choice to use early in your Hyperspace Lumiose adventure.

Crobat is one of the best flying-type options added in the Mega Dimension DLC, but it's best used against opponents that don't boast many coverage moves, as this Pokemon's defense is quite weak. Fortunately, Crobat can often attack more often thanks to its incredibly high 130 base speed, giving you the chance to end battles quickly.
However, you'll be relying on physical moves like Aerial Ace, Dual Wingbeat, and Sky Attack, which aren't as good as powerful options like Hurricane. Despite its limitations, Crobat will serve you well as you progress through the DLC, providing some solid Poison type coverage to keep your team selection flexible enough to build around its weaknesses.

Talonflame's BST is far from impressive, but luckily, its high speed lets you use multiple attacks to open up battles, which can be the difference between a quick victory and a long encounter. Unfortunately, this Fire and Flying-type bird is still waiting on Mega Evolution, or it could be one of the strongest Pokemon available in the Mega Dimension DLC.
Still, its physical attack abilities are solid and will help you early on in the DLC, but you'll quickly find better options to choose from, especially if you don't mind dealing with quadruple weakness to rock-type moves. Talonflame's Movepool is easily its biggest draw, with access to multiple coverage moves including Dual Wingbeat and Sky Attack.

Corvicnite represents the opposite of Crobat, as it is a Flying and Steel-type Pokémon, the latter of which is directly resistant to Poison attacks. Furthermore, while Crobat was a fast Pokemon that focused on attacking as quickly and often as possible, Corviknight is much slower, and its main focus centers around opposing tanking hits and HP bars.
Corviknight's offense may not be stellar, but this Pokemon is a great tank that can act as a pivot when your main attacker drops in battle, while giving you a chance to heal and reload for a counterattack. Full immunity to poison and ground attacks makes this Pokemon great as a wall, while the additional eight resistances ensure that it will only be a threat against certain types.

Hawlucha is a direct upgrade on Flamigo, the main difference being that this Pokemon has access to the powerful Mega Evolution, which greatly improves its already excellent BST. Hawlucha improves its attack to 137 when it Mega Evolves, further boosting both its defense to tank a few hits and ensure it hangs around long enough to finish off its opponents.
600 BST does a lot of heavy lifting for Mega Hawlucha, but with its access to a variety of physical moves, Brick Break, Brave Bird, and its signature move, Flying Press, it can hit multiple enemies hard. Mega Hawlucha can effectively take on Rogue Mega Pokemon and justify being brought into DLC from the start, thanks to its viability in main story battles.

Charizard may struggle against Rock-type attacks, but this Pokemon offers a major upgrade over Talonflame thanks to its high BST and access to two Mega Evolutions. However, Mega Charizard Y is the obvious choice for great Flying-type viability, as it receives a huge boost to its stats allowing it to hit hard with moves like Hurricane.
159 Special Attack is an incredibly strong starting point, and 100 or higher in both Defense and Speed makes Charizard stand out as one of the best Flying-type Pokemon available. Make use of its massive Special Attack and watch Pokémon melt the opponent as Charizard barely takes a scratch, if you keep it away from Electric and Rock moves.

When it comes to Mega Pokemon options, Staraptor is easily one of the best new Mega Evolutions added to Mega Dimension, even if its base form's BST won't blow you away. In Mega Evolving, Staraptor's attack goes up to 140, with a huge increase in its defense, special defense, and speed.
The ability to hit the tank is critical for Pokémon that can Mega Evolve, as you'll need to replenish their Mega Energy and Mega Evolve if they faint in their Mega Forms. Fortunately, the Staraptor is very capable of survival and does not suffer from any of the quadruple weaknesses.

Rayquaza soars above the pack as the best Flying-type Pokemon in the Mega Dimension DLC, and is the best Pokemon among its legendary peers. While its BST is already impressive, Mega Rayquaza can use powerful signature moves like Dragon Ascent and Hurricane to destroy flying-weak enemies.
The only downside to this Pokemon is how long it takes to encounter it, as you'll only have access to the DLC towards the end of the postgame. Despite the wait, Rayquaza's strength is worth it, as it eclipses the competition in nearly every category.
